Florida has more homes for sale than ever before, report says
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you are looking to buy a house in Florida, the market may be in your favor. Redfin announced that Florida ended January with a record number of homes for sale. At the end of January, there were 172,209 homes for sale, which was the highest inventory of any month on record, Redfin's report showed. According to Redfin, the state has seen a housing inventory surge because it has been building more homes than most states. Intensifying natural disasters, such as Hurricanes Helene and Milton, as well as skyrocketing home insurance costs, have prompted some homeowners to leave the state. Busch Gardens announces full concert lineup for 2025 Food & Wine Festival 'With so many options for buyers to choose from, a lot of homes for sale are sitting on the market for months at a time, causing stale inventory to pile up. Listings are also piling up because homebuyer demand has been cooling; pending home sales in Florida fell 9.3% year over year in January,' Redfin said in a news release. Condo inventory in Florida was at an all-time high in January. The inventory of single-family homes was just shy of hitting the record high. Redfin reported that active listings are at a record high in eight of the state's 31 metropolitan areas: Cape Coral, Deltona-Daytona Beach, Homosassa Springs, Lakeland, North Port-Sarasota, Ocala, Port St. Lucie and the Villages. Florida Redfin agents said the state is in a buyer's market, meaning 'sellers may need to offer concessions to woo bidders, and should also make sure their homes are in tip-top shape. The report said home prices are even falling in some Florida markets.' 'Bidding wars are very rare these days,' said Bryan Carnaggio, a Redfin Premier real estate agent in Jacksonville. 'With this many houses for sale, a home basically needs to look like it's out of a magazine—and be priced fairly—to get multiple offers.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 7-Planet Parade: Here's how to see the planets in Tampa Bay
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa Bay residents will be able to see several planets in the evening sky Thursday and Friday. According to Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Amanda Hollly, five of the planets in our solar system will be visible to the naked eye, but you'll need a telescope to see Neptune and Uranus. Busch Gardens announces full concert lineup for 2025 Food & Wine Festival While there will be some cloud cover Thursday night, it should be nice and clear Friday night for anyone who wants to go planet gazing. 'You have to do it at a specific time if you want to see all seven,' Holly said. '6:40 is when I suggest going outside, p.m.' The reason why you need to go looking for the planets at sunset is because two of the planets, Mercury and Saturn, will go under the horizon and disappear from sight. 'I suggest getting somewhere along the beach so that you have a clear view of the horizon,' Holly said. If you have trouble seeing the planets, you can use the Sky Guide mobile app to help identify what you're seeing. You can find it on the App Store for Apple or use the Star Map app for Android.
