Marco Andretti 'shoved into wall' on Lap 4 crash during Indy 500. Will he run next year?
INDIANAPOLIS — A multi-car collision resulted in Marco Andretti's 2025 Indianapolis 500 ending in the first turn. Andretti was on the outside of Dreyer and Reinbold Racing teammates Ryan Hunter-Reay and Jack Harvey when Hunter-Reay moved the No. 23 Chevrolet to the right. Harvey was alongside Hunter-Reay and moved in reaction to his teammate, colliding with Andretti. Advertisement 'I'm fine, just bummed. I wait all year for this and to have it end that early is as frustrating that it gets. If I had a crystal ball, I just would've waited, but it's not really in my nature to do that,' Andretti said. 'I had a really good start going and just got crowded at the top. I couldn't move up anymore and got shoved into the wall.' The No. 98 Honda spun and hit the wall with the left side of the car before it slid to a stop near the outside wall in Turn 1. Andretti climbed out of the car under his own power. The 20-year-veteran addressed whether the crash would motivate him to run in the 110th Indianapolis 500. 'It would suck to go out like that, wouldn't it?,' Andretti said. Indy 500: TV schedule, starting grid, betting odds, storylines, weather and more
The famed 'Month of May' concludes this Sunday with the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500. Team Penske's Josef Newgarden is aiming to become the first driver ever to win three consecutive Indy 500s, but to do so, he'll have to do it from the final row of the grid. Robert Schwartzman will lead the field to the green flag after becoming the first rookie since 1983 to win the pole. Eight former Indy 500 winners are in the 2025 field, combining for 13 victories in the previous 108 editions of the race. The cars driven by Newgarden and Will Power were each found to have an illegally modified attenuator, which is the rear-end crash structure. The attenuator is a spec part that by rule cannot be modified. Advertisement Larson and "The Double": For the second straight year, 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson will attempt "The Double" — running the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600, which take place just hours apart in Indiana and North Carolina in two very different types of race car. Larson admirably qualified fifth for the Indy 500 last year but rain delayed the start of the race by four hours. He finished 18th and immediately boarded a plane bound for Charlotte, but in an ironic twist of fate, the same weather system that delayed the start in Indianapolis curtailed his attempt to at least jump into his Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Chevrolet in the late stages of the Coca-Cola 600. He'll start 19th for the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Sensational Schwartzman: Only two times in the 108-year history of Indianapolis 500 had a rookie ever qualified first for the race. Until last Sunday. Schwartzman, racing for Prema, became the first Indy debutant since Teo Fabi in 1983 to win the pole position. What's more — it's his first time driving an oval in his professional career after coming up through the European karting and Formulae system, while also driving endurance cars on the side. 109th Indy 500 starting grid Row 1 Robert Schwartzman, Prema Racing-Chevrolet Takuma Sato, RLL Racing-Honda Pato O'Ward, Arrow McLaren-Chevrolet Advertisement Row 2 Scott Dixon, Chip Ganassi Racing-Honda Felix Rosenqvist, Meyer Shank Racing-Honda Alex Palou, Chip Ganassi Racing-Honda Row 3 David Malukas, AJ Foyt Racing-Chevrolet Christian Lundgaard, Arrow McLaren-Chevrolet Marcus Ericsson, Andretti-Global-Honda Row 4 Scott McLaughlin, Team Penske-Chevrolet Conor Daly, Juncos Hollinger Racing-Chevrolet Alexander Rossi, Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevrolet Row 5 Kyffin Simpson, Chip Ganassi Racing-Honda Ed Carpenter, Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevrolet Santino Ferrucci, AJ Foyt Racing-Chevrolet Row 6 Devlin DeFrancesco, RLL Racing-Honda Sting Ray Robb, Juncos Hollinger Racing-Chevrolet Christian Rasmussen, Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevrolet Advertisement Row 7 Kyle Larson, Arrow McLaren/Hendrick-Chevrolet Louis Foster, RLL Racing-Honda Callum Ilott, Prema Racing-Chevrolet Row 8 Helio Castroneves, Meyer Shank Racing-Honda Kyle Kirkwood, Andretti Global-Honda Nolan Siegel, Arrow McLaren-Chevrolet Row 9 Ryan Hunter-Reay, DRR-Cusick Motorsports-Chevrolet Jack Harvey, DRR-Cusic Motorsports-Chevrolet Colton Herta, Andretti Global-Honda Row 10 Graham Rahal, RLL Racing-Honda Marco Andretti, Andretti Global/Curb Agajanian-Honda Marcus Armstrong, Meyer Shank Racing-Honda Row 11 Rinus Veekay, Dale Coyne Racing-Honda Josef Newgarden, Team Penske-Chevrolet Will Power, Team Penske-Chevrolet Indy 500 betting odds Despite the 32nd starting spot, Newgarden has the fifth-best odds to win entering the weekend – likely due to his status as the two-time defending race winner. Pato O'Ward, having posted two second-place finishes at the Speedway in addition to a fourth and sixth, enters with the best odds at 5-to-1. Pato O'Ward and Alex Palou have the best early odds to win the 2025 Indy 500
Pato O'Ward and Alex Palou have the best early odds to win the 2025 Indy 500 The Indianapolis 500 is one of the most high-profile, exciting and prestigious motorsports events in the world, and IndyCar drivers would do just about anything to win. But they also know they have to execute the perfect race Sunday, which actually started during qualifying rounds last weekend when Indy 500 rookie Robert Shwartzman won the pole and stunned the field. So while Shwartzman — in his first career race on an oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2.5-mile track — will lead the field to green, he'll have several IndyCar veterans and past Indy 500 winners chasing him down for a shot at the checkered flag and a cold bottle of milk. And despite starting from P1, Shwartzman is hardly the favorite to win Sunday's 2025 Indy 500. As of Tuesday afternoon, Pato O'Ward is the favorite to win the 2025 Indy 500 at +500, according to BetMGM. He's followed by Alex Palou (+600), Scott McLaughlin (+700), Scott Dixon (+700) and two-time defending Indy 500 champ Josef Newgarden (+1000). Shwartzman is probably having his rookie status held against him a bit and has the 16th-best odds to win the Indy 500 at +2500, along with Colton Herta and Santino Ferrucci. Here's a look at the odds to win the 2025 Indy 500 early in the week leading up to the biggest day in motorsports: Of course, these odds can change throughout the week depending on a number of circumstances, and even then, anything can happen at the Indy 500.
