Dubai: Over Dh1 million to be used for inmate reform, reunite them with families
Over Dh1 million in humanitarian aid will be used for the reform of inmates in the Dubai Correctional and Punitive Establishments, Dubai Police announced Tuesday. This initiative aims to resolve financial cases and facilitate the reunification of several inmates with their families during the first quarter of 2025.
The Department of Correctional and Punitive Establishments allocated exactly Dh1,156,220, helping inmates prepare for a fresh start upon completing their sentences.
Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, praised the General Department for its vital role and highlighted the department's impactful humanitarian initiatives, particularly its financial and in-kind support to deserving cases.
These remarks came as Lt. General Al Marri chaired the Q1 2025 performance review meeting of the General Department of Correctional and Punitive Establishments.
Last year, Dubai Police announced that humanitarian aid worth Dh7.6 million was provided to male and female inmates in correctional facilities during 2024. The aid, amounting to Dh7,639,626, aims to offer both social and moral support to prisoners serving sentences.
In addition to financial support, Dubai Police continues to implement programmes that enhance the quality of life within correctional facilities. These include educational and vocational training aimed at equipping inmates with the skills needed for employment after release.
During the meeting, Lt. General Al Marri was briefed on the department's strategic indicators, notable achievements, planned future projects, and the performance outcomes of its various subdivisions during the first quarter.
Major General Marwan Abdul Karim Jalfar, Director of the General Department of Correctional and Punitive Establishments, affirmed that the quarterly review is crucial in enhancing operational performance, addressing challenges, and refining future project plans.
He emphasised that such meetings contribute to implementing a cohesive work methodology and driving forward development strategies to effectively achieve the department's objectives.
