Maui drivers: Avoid Honoapiʻilani Highway during Maui Marathon
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Calling all Maui drivers. If you usually commute through Honoapiʻilani Highway, you might want to find an alternate route for Sunday, April 27.
Thousands of racers traverse Waikiki streets for Hapalua Half Marathon
Thousands of runners are expected to participate in the 2025 Maui Marathon — which will close a portion of the highway.
According to the Hawaii Department of Transportation, the right southbound lane of Honoapiʻilani Highway between Kāʻanapali Parkway and ʻAholo Road will be closed for a portion of the added that one lane in the southbound direction will stay open for traffic.
Drivers should drive with caution near the right shoulder of the highway from ʻAholo Road to Papalāua Wayside Park, as all lanes of traffic will be open.
Runners will turn around at Papalāua Wayside Park at Mile Post 10.5 and take the same route back to the starting point.
Officials expect all road closures to be lifted by 9 a.m. or sooner.
