2025 Opening Day at Mosby Pool is delayed

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Opening Day for Evansville city pools is right around the corner, but one pool will not open on time. Lorraine and Rochelle-Landers Pools will open Saturday morning, however Mosby Pool's opening date is delayed. Evansville hopes to have Mosby Pool open on Saturday, June 7. Everything was ready to go for the pool to be open this Saturday, but some of the machinery failed earlier this week. The city says it's been working on getting the problem fixed ever since. While families will kick off their summer on Saturday at Lorraine and Rochelle-Landers, Mosby Pool on the west side will be empty, hopefully for one more week. During preparations, some unforeseen circumstances came in the way. 'A combustion pump that was connected to the motor and some fabricated piping broke,' says Evansville Parks and Recreation Executive Director Danielle Crook. 'This is what the contractor is working on repairing right now.' We're told the repairs will be made this weekend, and the health department will test the water, hopefully giving the green light for guests to enjoy for the season. Lorraine and Rochelle-Landers Pools will open for the first time this summer at 11 a.m. this Saturday. Nolan Arenado grateful for big Opening Day after whirlwind offseason

ST. LOUIS – After a whirlwind offseason clouded by trade talks, eight-time All-Star Nolan Arenado is back for his fifth season with the St. Louis Cardinals. And he started it off with a bang, crushing a key insurance home run in Thursday's Opening Day victory. Arenado, known for his intense focus and competitive drive, admitted that Thursday's home opener was an emotional experience. This year, he took time to appreciate the excitement of the new season and the Opening Day festivities, a fresh perspective likely heightened by the uncertainty of his offseason. Advertisement 'It feels good. It meant a lot to me today,' said Arenado on his 2025 Opening Day experience. 'I took it all in, and I usually don't, but today, I did. The way [the fans] cheered for me got me motivated, and I was just fortunate to give them something to cheer about. I want to thank them for that. It meant a lot to me and my family. It was a cool day.' For a time, one major focus of the Cardinals' offseason was whether the team would trade Arenado to shape its future. One expected deal involving the Houston Astros fell through, and nothing else ever came close, creating a tricky situation for the Cardinals and Arenado to navigate moving forward. Arenado has turned the page from the offseason. The 33-year-old third baseman is currently under contract for three more years with the Cardinals. He is expected to handle the hot corner on a near-daily basis if healthy and rostered with the team. PHOTOS: 2025 Opening Day in St. Louis Advertisement Despite all of the uncertainty surrounding the offseason, Arenado was energized on Opening Day, and his post-homer curtain call came as an unexpected, yet welcome surprise. 'I was happy I got to that guy's heater [Twins reliever Griffin Jax]. He's a really good pitcher, and I was just trying to battle there,' said Arenado. 'I hit it short to the ball, and that's when I'm usually good, when I'm pulling the ball in the air. I was able to do it. I wasn't expecting a curtain call. I was actually surprised I got it. I don't think I got one last year. It felt good to get one this year.' Similarly, the warm reception from Cardinals fans during pregame introductions caught him by surprise. 'When they're introducing the lineup, [fans] got loud for me, and it meant a lot. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be that loud. I think it kind of hit me a little bit. I was pretty pumped up about it.' Advertisement Arenado felt that this Opening Day was a glimpse of what a youth-driven Cardinals lineup could accomplish this season. 'We play with energy, we're excited to come to the field every day, and that's something that we're trying to set the tone with. And it starts today,' said Arenado. [Twins starter] Pablo [Lopez] is a great pitcher. We did a good job against him, and we found a way to win the ballgame. But obviously, [Cardinals starter] Sonny [Gray] set the tone today. But, I think, like I said, we just want to come into energy, and we got a lot of young guys that bring it, and we all need to step up and do it.' Close Thanks for signing up! 'He was holding up his jersey when I gave the curtain call, and then, I don't know, he got laid out bad. He was on the dirt, for sure. He got laid out bad.' 'He was a little excited?' asked FOX 2 Sports Director Martin Kilcoyne. 'Yeah, yeah. It's all good. He's going to jail, so it's not all good, but yeah,' replied Arenado, as he and media members shared chuckles. The Cardinals defeated the Twins, 5-3, on Opening Day after an hour and a half rain delay. Both teams return to action Saturday afternoon at Busch Stadium. Red Sox's Rafael Devers brutal start to MLB season results in unfortunate history

We are just a few short days removed from MLB's 2025 Opening Day, but Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers' strikeout trend is already raising some concerns. The Red Sox's designated hitter made 12 plate appearances over Boston's first three games of the season. While he failed to record a hit during any of those at-bats, his 10 strikeouts made some rather unfortunate history. That volume of strikeouts represented an unprecedented rate in the first three games of any MLB season on record, USA Today reported. Devers' early regular season struggles come on the heels of a tense spring training. During the exhibition period, Red Sox manager Alex Cora and Devers appeared to be at odds about whether he would spend time on the baseball diamond covering third base. Shortly before Opening Day, Cora confirmed Devers would handle the team's designated hitter duties on a full-time basis. The Red Sox season has been less than ideal so far — albeit through just four games. The 2025 campaign did get off to a promising start as Boston celebrated a 5-2 season-opening win over the Texas Rangers. However, the Red Sox proceeded to drop their next three games, falling to 1-3 on the young season. Former Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom previously described Devers as a star, and the franchise is paying him like one. Devers inked a contract with the Red Sox worth $313.5 million in Jan. 2023, ESPN reported. He finished last season with 28 home runs and had a .272 batting average. Baseball fans were furious after MLB.TV crashed at the start of 2025 Opening Day

Baseball fans were furious after crashed at the start of 2025 Opening Day Opening Day is finally here, which means we have actual baseball after 147 days of waiting (with the exception of a couple games in Japan). If only MLB could have gotten its streaming service ready in time. As fans logged into to watch the early games on Thursday, many encountered error messages on multiple devices and browsers. The league promotes as the only way for fans to watch out-of-market games, and yet, on the first day of the regular season, the league was caught totally unprepared for the demand. Through the first hour of games, the issue wasn't resolved — though MLB's support Twitter/X account told users that it expected a resolution shortly. Needless to say, fans were furious about the embarrassing technical issues. A serious league wouldn't let this happen. This was how Twitter/X reacted

Joe Buck opened his return to the baseball broadcasting booth with a tribute to the late Bob Uecker

Joe Buck opened his return to the baseball broadcasting booth with a tribute to the late Bob Uecker When Joe Buck joined ESPN back in 2022 to lead the network's Monday Night Football coverage, it meant a farewell to three decades as the lead voice in baseball. But for Thursday's 2025 Opening Day, Buck made a temporary return to the MLB booth where he kicked off ESPN's coverage of Brewers-Yankees with a tribute to legendary Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker. Uecker died in January at 90 years old. He spent six decades as an MLB broadcaster. And with the Brewers playing in the 2025 opener, it was only right for Buck and ESPN to start off with a tribute montage. Brewers baseball won't be the same without Uecker.
