Jax Forrest's World Trials Championship match delayed
(WTAJ) — While the U.S. wrestling team for the 2025 Senior World Championships will be decided on June 14 during Final X, Bishop McCort's Jax Forrest will have to wait just a little bit longer for his chance to make Team USA.
On Tuesday, USA Wrestling announced that Forrest's opponent, Vito Arujau, has requested and received a delay for the match to take place at a later date. According to 2025 World Team Trials procedures, the new date, time and location will be decided by the athletes and a national coach.
Since Arujau was a 2024 Senior World Medalist, he was able to make a request for his Final X match to be postponed. Delay requests must be submitted at least 48 hours before the event and must include a written notice regarding injury or illness from a USA Wrestling-approved doctor.
Forrest has been on fire lately, defeating former NCAA champions as a high schooler to win the U.S. Open title back in April. This all comes on the heels of Forrest qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials last year to being named Most Outstanding Wrestler in the PIAA after winning a state title this past season.
In his college career, Arujau was a two-time NCAA Champion for Cornell.
The winner of the best-of-three match between Forrest and Arujau will represent the U.S. at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Croatia at 61-kilograms in September.
