Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Karate Association (SKA) finished seventh at the 24th Milo Open Karate Championship 2025 which concluded in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Despite being represented by only 10 athletes, they managed to win five gold and four bronze medals in the competition. The gold medals were captured by Nur Radhiah Fathiah Razimi (female junior kumite 16-17, -48kg), Danish Rayyan Rajis (cadet male kata and male individual cadet kumite 14-15, -57kg), Ivy Catrinaz Zurizal (individual female kumite 12-13) and Al Zovainz Zurizal (male individual cadet 14-15, -63kg). The bronzes were delivered by Putri Izz Dini Imtiaz Ali (girls kumite 8-9, +25kg G1), Abra Eiiyah Isabelle Mohd Asmawi (girls kumite 8-9, +25kg G2), Nur Shaheen Izazi Imtiaz Ali (female individual kata junior 16-17 G1) and Harris Qusyairi Helmy (individual male kata 12-13). SKA dominated the event last year by taking home the overall title with 17 golds, nine silvers and 27 bronzes as well as topping the non-sanction medal tally with 16 golds, 12 silvers and 12 bronzes. Secretary general Julian Chin congratulated the team led by coach Frederick Farlin with Abd Rahim Mohd Asmawi as team official.
