Abu Dhabi: 25th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion draws global experts to shape future of public health
27 May 2025 11:05 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)As the 25th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion concluded in Abu Dhabi, the emirate not only made history as the first Middle Eastern host but also set a powerful new agenda for the future of global public health. Over four transformative days, more than 2,000 experts, leaders, and changemakers from over 100 countries convened to co-create solutions for planetary health and by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), and supported by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the conference delivered a suite of tangible global outcomes: 15 policy recommendations, 10 long-term strategic partnerships, and 385 expert-led sessions – all converging around the unifying theme of Settings for Planetary Health and Well-being. Discussions emphasised a paradigm shift from healthcare to holistic health creation, grounded in equity, climate resilience, and systems the most consequential outputs of IUHPE 2025 were policy recommendations that address some of the most pressing public health imperatives of the 21st century. These included Reframing Digital Health: From Tech-First to People-First: While digital health is revolutionising care delivery, the conference emphasised that technology must be an enabler – not a called for a collaborative, inclusive approach that ensures digital tools address the needs of all population segments, particularly the most vulnerable. The goal: enhance accessibility and affordability without displacing traditional care models. It's not about replacing doctors with devices – it's about using innovation to bring care closer to other recommendations comprised Designing Cooler, Smarter Cities for a Heating Planet: As extreme heat events grow more frequent, delegates endorsed nature-based and tech-powered urban design solutions. A call to action emerged for the adoption of reflective, porous, and green surfaces as the new global standard. These smart surfaces—combined with solar PV and urban forestry – offer cost-effective, climate-resilient solutions that make cities cooler, healthier, and more Health as a Right, Not a Privilege: A powerful outcome from IUHPE 2025 was the recognition that mental health must be treated as a systemic right. The policy roadmap urges countries to embed mental well-being into education, urban planning, and primary healthcare. Co-creation with youth and vulnerable groups through digital engagement and participatory design was highlighted as key to culturally relevant solutions. Cross-border investment in AI-powered tools and digital equity will also support global mental health Preparedness: With pandemics, climate shocks, and conflicts increasingly straining health systems, the conference put forward robust recommendations for emergency preparedness. These include boosting healthcare surge capacity, deploying mobile health units, and building community-based response programs. We are no longer reacting—we are redesigning health itself.'Reflecting the UAE's commitment to collaborative action, eight strategic agreements were signed between ADPHC and global health leaders including Boehringer Ingelheim, Organon, Emirates Cancer Society, Gilead Sciences, AstraZeneca, Novartis, IHLAD, Ma'an , MSD and Roche. Free Health Screenings Initiative Launched in Abu Dhabi
The new initiative offers free cancer, diabetes, and heart screenings for basic insurance holders through a joint ADPHC–Ma'an effort. May 19, 2025 Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an have signed an agreement to launch a fundraising initiative supporting early screening for cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes among basic health insurance holders in the emirate. The initiative covers free screenings for cervical, breast, and colorectal cancers in women aged 40 to 75, and colorectal cancer in men of the same age group. It also includes early detection programmes for type 2 diabetes and heart disease risks. The agreement was signed at the 25th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion at ADNEC by Dr Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, and Engineer Abdulla Hamid Al Ameri, Director General of Ma'an. Fundraising will be led by Ma'an, while ADPHC will oversee implementation and service quality. The project aims to improve health outcomes for residents with limited insurance coverage and strengthen public-private collaboration in healthcare development.

17 May 2025 21:36 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, Abu Dhabi Government's official channel to receive social contributions, have signed a landmark agreement to jointly launch a fundraising initiative to support early screening programmes for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes among basic health insurance holders in Abu Dhabi initiative focuses on cancer screening coverage, providing free cancer screening to people with basic health insurance, including women aged 40 to 75 for cervical, breast, and colorectal cancer screening, and men aged 40 to 75 for colorectal cancer screening. In addition, the initiative includes a programme for the early detection of heart disease and diabetes programme aims to detect type 2 diabetes and prediabetes early among individuals with basic insurance, offering men and women aged 40 to 75 comprehensive screenings for diabetes and cardiovascular disease risks. This initiative seeks to reduce complications and support early intervention to improve overall strategic collaboration highlights the joint commitment of both entities to enhance public health standards and guarantee inclusive access to essential early detection services. ADPHC signs strategic partnership agreement with Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi to enhance community health and wellbeing

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 25th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion, a global event hosted in Abu Dhabi for the first time in the Middle East, under the theme Settings for Planetary Health and and IHLAD are collaborating to improve the lives of Abu Dhabi's residents through preventing and managing lifestyle-related diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, obesity, hypertension, and other cardiometabolic to the agreement, IHLAD will utilise the health data extracted from the comprehensive health screening programme (IFHAS). The institute will enrol participants through voluntary consent. Individuals will be classified according to age, gender and clinical risk factors. ADPHC, AstraZeneca forge strategic partnership to enhance COPD awareness, care in Abu Dhabi
14 May 2025 00:05 ABU DHABI (WAM)The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and AstraZeneca FZ LLC (AstraZeneca) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a collaborative public health project to strengthen public health initiatives, and improve outcomes for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Abu Dhabi emirate. The MoU was signed on May 13 2025, by Dr. Omniyat Al Hajeri, Executive Director of Community Health sector, representing ADPHC, and Sameh El Fangary. Cluster President GCC, AstraZeneca, representing global biopharmaceutical AstraZeneca, during the 25th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion, taking place from May 13 to 16, 2025, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Dr. Rashed Alsuwaidi, Director General of ADPHC said, "This partnership reflects our steadfast commitment to improving population health in Abu Dhabi through proactive and innovative approaches.
