Weapon seized after convenience store theft: CKPS
The Chatham-Kent Police Service has arrested two men after a theft at a convenience store in Chatham.
On Monday just after 8 p.m., police said they were called with a report of two men leaving a store without paying multiple times.
Less than 10 minutes later, police found both suspects, a 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man and a 19-year-old Chatham-Kent man, walking in the area.
When officers went up to the suspects, the 19-year-old allegedly ran and was chased by police. When the CKPS caught up with the suspect, it said a search resulted in a weapon in his possession.
The other suspect was arrested without incident. The stolen items were recovered.
The 28-year-old is facing a charge of possession of property obtained by crime.
The 19-year-old has been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, escaping and being at large without excuse, obstructing police, and failure to comply with a probation order.
