District Two Recovery Court holds gala to raise money and awareness

MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Many people gathered for dinner and fellowship at the 2nd District Recovery Court Gala Thursday night. The Recovery Court Program is important for the people who live in Martin, Washington, Beaufort, Tyrell and Hyde Counties. 'What is it is a program that is designed to address the needs of those who are suffering from substance use disorder and have a high need or high risk. It is a very intensive outpatient program in a court based setting. We have groups where they meet and court sessions where they have to come in. If they are doing good, they receive incentives, if they're having problems and not following the rules, there are sanctions.' said Drew Robinson, Martin County Sheriff. The program has been in District Two since 2018. Newly appointed Martin County Sheriff, Drew Robinson, said that it's a beneficial program for helping people recover. 'What I can tell you is that I've been in law enforcement for 29 years now, and this recovery court is the best program that I have seen when it comes to addressing the needs of those who are suffering from substance abuse disorder and getting them from that state where they are using substances to where they are a productive member of society.' Donations help this program thrive and are always needed and accepted. 'We operate off grants and we don't get any funding from the state, so everything we do- the treatment, transportation, incentives, salary for our coordinator all comes from donations. We cover a huge geographical area in district two. We have to have the donations to be self sufficient.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
