Moroccan Cinema Center Supports 29 Film Festivals with Over MAD 6.7 Million
Rabat – Morocco's Cinema Center (CCM) has announced that it will provide financial support worth MAD 6.77 million to 29 film festivals and events across the country. The decision came after the support committee reviewed 31 applications and listened to presentations from festival organizers on April 3 and 4 in Rabat. The CCM released a statement explaining the decisions made by the support committee, which is led by Khadija Alami El Alaoui and includes a group of cinema professionals. Among the largest grants was MAD 1.3 million allocated to the 30th Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival, and MAD 1.2 million to the 25th Khouribga African Cinema Festival. The International Animation Film Festival in Meknes also received strong support, with a grant of MAD 600,000. Other notable grants include MAD 700,000 dirhams for the 13th Dakhla International Film Festival, MAD 300,000 for the 4th Casablanca Independent Cinema Festival, MAD 250,000 for the 6th Casablanca Arab Film Festival, and MAD 200,000 for the 13th Assa National Desert Film Festival. Smaller festivals also received support, such as the 9th 'Camera Kids' National Film Festival in Rabat (MAD 120,000). In addition, MAD 100,000 was allocated for both the Al Hoceima International Film Festival and the 10th Oujda Amateur Film Festival, and MAD 80,000 for the 11th Ras Sbarteil International Film Festival in Tangier and the 7th Tafoukt Amazigh Cinema Festival in Tifrouine. Other smaller events received between MAD 50,000 and 60,000 in funding. These festivals are organized by various cultural and cinema associations across Moroccan cities, including Casablanca, Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Oujda, and more. The support aims to encourage cultural diversity, support local cinema, and promote education through film. The government has continuously vowed to support the country's growing cinema sector and help regional festivals flourish.

For the First Time, Amir Ramses Joins Jury of Tetouan Festival
Director Amir Ramses is to take part in the feature film jury; (narrative and documentary), at the 30th Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival in northern Morocco, scheduled to take place from April 26th to May 3rd. Multiple quality films are to be screened in the festival. Ramses mentioned that it's his first participation, as a jury member, in Tetouan Festival, which includes several prominent figures, such as the jury head, Italian director, screenwriter, and actor Daniele Luchetti. Luchetti's films received prestigious awards in many international festivals. The jury also includes Moroccan director, screenwriter and producer Asmaa El-Moudir who won the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and Portuguese producer Isabel Machado who supervised multiple festivals and supported young talents. Furthermore, the jury includes French journalist, director and critic for "Positif" magazine, Nguyen Truong Bing, who is interested in film documentation issues. With all these figures, Ramses considers it a special mission in a major festival in Morocco. In the upcoming edition, 10 feature films compete for the "Tamuda"; the festival's top award, Mohamed Rekab Jury Award, Ezz El-Din Medour Award for the First Work, as well as Best Actor and Actress Awards. The festival celebrates three decades of dedication to promoting Mediterranean cinema and enriching cinema in Morocco. The festival was founded in 1985 at the initiative of the Friends of Cinema Association in Tetouan. Since that time, it has sought to enrich its portfolio and networks in multiple Mediterranean countries in order to become a major platform and a vital artistic event for fostering dialogue between generations and cross-pollination of cinematic experiences. It also aims at promoting values of openness, modernity and civilization and raising the name of Tetouan city high in the fields of art and cinema at the national level and at the Mediterranean Basin level.

Tetouan : Mediterranean Film Festival marks 30 years with Luchetti & El Moudir
The 30th Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival will take place from April 26 to May 3, 2025, celebrating three decades of showcasing Mediterranean cinema. For this anniversary edition, the city's iconic cultural venues will host the festival, «offering film enthusiasts and professionals a privileged setting», announced the organizing association, Friends of Tetouan Cinema (ACT). This year, 10 feature-length fiction and documentary films from Mediterranean countries will compete for several awards. «The official jury will present the Grand Prize of the City of Tetouan 'Tamouda,' as well as the Mohamed Reggab Prize (Special Jury Prize), the Azzeddine Meddour Prize for a first work, and the Best Actress and Actor awards», the statement added. Italian director Daniele Luchetti will preside over the jury for feature-length fiction and documentary films. A major figure in contemporary cinema, Luchetti has explored family, social, and political dynamics for over three decades, balancing drama and comedy. He has collaborated with prominent actors such as Elio Germano, Laura Morante, and Riccardo Scamarcio. Luchetti has received numerous accolades, including Best Actor at Cannes for La Nostra Vita (2010), the Pasinetti Award in Venice for Lacci (2020), and the FIPRESCI Prize in Berlin for Domani Accadrà (1988), making him one of the most awarded Italian directors of his generation. The jury also includes Moroccan director and producer Asmae El Moudir, recognized at the Cannes Festival, the FIFM, and the IDFA for her documentary The Mother of All Lies. She will be joined by Portuguese producer and festival director Isabel Machado, Egyptian director and screenwriter Amir Ramsis, who is also the artistic director of the El Gouna Film Festival, and French filmmaker and critic Nguyễn Trọng Bình, a specialist in cinematic heritage. Additionally, the Mustapha Mesnaoui Critics' Jury will honor «a work for its aesthetic approach and critical impact». This jury will include three critics and journalists: Fatima Ifriqui (Morocco), Cédric Lépine (France), and Federico Pontiggia (Italy). Beyond the competition, the festival promises a rich program of screenings, discussions, and training sessions, fostering exchanges that highlight the diversity of cinema across the Mediterranean region.
