Ex-Labuan MP Mulok, Charlie to make World Masters debut

By: GL Oh Text Size: Mulok and Charlie Kota Kinabalu: Former Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Abdul Mulok Awang Damit, 71, and Charlie Lee, 68, from Tuaran will be making their debut on the world stage at the World Masters Games 2025 in Taipei, Taiwan on May 18-30. They are among the nine-member team from Sabah Masters Athletics Association (Samas) to represent Malaysia in the two-week event. The two had previously competed in the 34th Asia Masters Athletics Championship in Philippines in 2023 with Mulok winning two golds (pole vault and 4x100m), one silver (long jump) and one bronze (80m hurdles) in the men's 70 category, while Charlie delivered two silvers (100m hurdles, 200m) and a bronze (100m) in the men's 65 category. According to Mulok, he first started to get involved in the sport back in 2014 to overcome his health issues that eventually led to serious training and subsequently winning medals in multiple local and international events. He will be taking part in the men's 70 category in the 80m hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault. Charlie on the other hand, who had no background in the sport before competing in 2018, has an impressive personal best time of 12.91s in the 100m and 27.13s in the 200m achieved at the Tambunan Open Track and Field Championship 2024. He will compete in the men's 65 category in 100m, 200m, high jump and 300m hurdles.
