Women's Day concert honors local female artists and musicians

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Saturday marked International Women's Day, and a church in our community used the day to highlight local women musicians and artists for their contributions to the world of music. Immanuel Baptist Church on Park Avenue hosted its second annual Women's Day Concert as part of their ongoing 'Concerts on Park' series. Performances included the Debbie Kendrick Project, Cinque, and Sister Blue. The concert also featured the work of Karin Staples, a local artist who painted canvasses during the show, letting the music guide her art. She told News 8 she was donating half her profits to the church. 'It's phenomenal, it is so exciting to be able to lift up everyone in that spirit and just see how it manifests,' Staples said. 'I want to see how they're reacting to the pieces and whatnot, and if I end up selling them I'm actually going to split the proceeds, half of it goes to the church, the other half, well, pays for my stuff [she laughs].' EPI's 39th Chocolate Ball raises funds for epilepsy support care

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Saturday in Rochester was extra sweet, as the 39th Chocolate Ball brought together individuals and families that have been impacted by epilepsy and seizures. The highlight of the evening was the renowned Chocolate Cake Competition, featuring 11 local chefs who have their chocolate creations auctioned to benefit 'Camp Eagr,' the only week-long sleep-away camp in New York State for children with epilepsy. The annual fundraising event was hosted by the group 'Empowering People's Independence,' or 'EPI.' It's an organization dedicated to providing care solutions for people with epilepsy, developmental disabilities, and brain injuries. Funds raised Saturday support EPI and its mission. Girl Scouts learn how to save lives at RRH stroke seminar 'It's critical because we provide a lot of education on how to respond to seizures and how to keep people safe, and we also do a lot of programming that really supports families and adults with seizures,' said Sarah Korba, the Associate Director of Epilepsy Services at EPI. During Saturday's event, more than 500 guests at the Riverside Convention Center in Rochester got to try chocolate cake, dance, and participate in a silent auction. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
