Actor Mark Lee urges hairstylist Addy Lee not to be too harsh on host Quan Yifeng

Local actor Mark Lee has urged his friend Addy Lee not to burn bridges with TV host Quan Yifeng. The 54-year-old celebrity hairstylist hosted Facebook live streams on May 13 and 14. He brought up his beef with Quan, 51, after her daughter Eleanor Lee hogged headlines recently for allegedly making derogatory comments about the people of China. The 25-year-old China-based Singaporean actress has denied making such remarks, but the incident has dealt a major blow to her burgeoning career in the country. Addy Lee then implied that what happened to her was "karmic retribution". On May 16, the hairstylist, who is now based in Thailand, posted on Facebook a photo of himself having dinner with Mark Lee and his wife Catherine Ng in Bangkok. "Thank you so much for taking care of me and teaching me along the way," Lee wrote in Chinese. "You helped me without asking for anything in return, even when you were at the peak of your popularity." He added that the actor never had a harsh word for him when they ran a hair salon together, regardless of whether the business made money. And when he once faced some problem in Europe, Mark Lee and his wife flew to the continent in the first instance to help him with his live-stream session. "You never asked me how much I should pay you or how much commission you should get," Addy Lee wrote. "You just treated me as a good friend and came over to help me. Thank you so much." Mark Lee told Shin Min Daily News that he recently met Addy Lee for dinner in Thailand. The actor was there to shoot the movie 3 Good Guys. The 56-year-old said they did discuss the spat between Addy Lee and Quan. Mark Lee told the Chinese-language evening daily: "I know only a little bit (about the saga) even though I am his good friend, so I can't say much. I just told him not to be too harsh, so that there is still room for them to be cordial in the future." He said the hairstylist just smiled after hearing what he said and did not respond directly. Mark Lee described Addy Lee as a kind person who is always willing to help others in need. The actor also mentioned an unpleasant episode which happened between them. "There was a period of time when he didn't talk to me and I was puzzled," Mark Lee said. "I spoke up about it and it turned out that a nasty person had been destroying our relationship behind our backs. We made up after opening up about it." The two first met around 1995 when Addy Lee was Mark Lee's hairstylist, before they decided to run a hair salon together. Addy Lee suggested selling the business after more than 20 years, as he wanted to go to Shanghai to open a hair salon and school. Mark Lee, who was less involved in the business, agreed. "Addy is really a very diligent and hardworking person, and I had no grumbles whether the business was successful or not," he told Shin Min. "He is indeed very good in doing business, and he made a lot of money for the company at that time." Lee, who helms entertainment company King Kong Media Production, said their friendship has strengthened as there is no conflict of interest between them. "I cherish every friendship, including with Addy, all the artistes in King Kong Media, director Neo and Hui Ge," Lee said, referring to local film-maker Jack Neo and local actor-comedian Henry Thia. "Friendship between people is very simple. Be friends if you can get along well. If not, just nod when you meet," he said.

'I told him not to be too ruthless': Mark Lee responds to Addy Lee's fallout with Quan Yi Fong, Entertainment News

Veteran local actor Mark Lee has spoken up on former celebrity hairstylist Addy Lee's fallout with local host Quan Yi Fong, after Addy brought him up multiple times in his livestreams and a Facebook post recently. Mark, 56, told Shin Min Daily News in a report published yesterday (May 19) that he had met Addy, 54, recently in Bangkok while making a cameo appearance in the local movie 3 Good Guys. "Although I am his good friend, I only know briefly about the matter, so I can't talk much about it. I only told him not to be too ruthless," he shared, adding only the people directly involved in it would know best. Mark was a co-owner of Monsoon Hair Group, founded by Addy and which the latter sold off in 2020. In an explosive livestream on May 13, Addy exposed details of his fallout with Yi Fong, his good friend of close to three decades, confirming speculations that they had severed their friendship in 2020. He revealed their dispute started over their sales livestreams during the Covid-19 pandemic. He alleged that Yi Fong sold her home and moved into his home with her non-celeb boyfriend and daughter, China-based actress Eleanor Lee, without paying rent. He also claimed he paid for their living expenses. However, after a month of hosting together, Addy claimed he was humiliated by Yi Fong's attitude towards him in the livestreams and that mother and daughter had said he was using their popularity for the livestreams. Yi Fong eventually moved out of his home with Eleanor and became friendly with Addy's former rival, celebrity hairstylist David Gan. Addy alleged Eleanor slandered the former director at Monsoon Hairdressing Group in a social media comment to thank David. Yi Fong responded in a Lianhe Zaobao report on May 16, explaining her side of the story, claiming that Addy's criticism has "no effect" on her and she wouldn't be responding to the matter again as there is "no end to it". Addy brought up Mark's name frequently over the next few days in his livestreams and that they had met for lunch in Bangkok recently, where Addy is now based. On May 16, Addy Lee posted three photos of him having a meal with Mark and his wife Catherine Ng, thanking him for teaching and taking care of him. Mark told the Chinese publication that when he told Addy not to be too harsh in his criticisms towards Yi Fong, Addy only smiled and didn't respond. However, Mark believes the latter knows how to handle his own matters. He also said that Addy is a hardworking person and a good businessman. "I feel that friendships between people are actually very easy. If we can get along, then we are friends and if we can't, then it's also okay to just nod at each other when we meet. Now that I am older and see many things clearer, I feel that the world is actually a simple place, but we made it complicated because of self-interest," Mark said. [[nid:718151]]
