MUSCAT: Oman Club will chase a semifinal spot in the 41st Gulf Club Handball Championship as they will take on Kuwait SC in a must win match on Wednesday. The high-stake encounter is set to begin at 6 pm at the indoor hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. In the same Group B, toppers Qatar's Al Arabi will face Dibba Al Huson in their final group-stage match at 4 pm at the same venue. Oman's Asad al Hasani and his teammates will work hard to secure slot in the semis of the Gulf event as they are hosting the event and getting support from their fans. Oman Club managed to earn two points from one win against Dibba Al Huson by 29-26 and they lost against Qatar's Al Arabi by 30-20 on Monday night. Mohammed bin Said al Azzan, Oman Club's assistant coach, said that the team is fully prepared to give their best against Kuwait SC. "Our goal is to perform much better in this game than in the previous two. On the other hand, Kuwait SC will aim to boost their last 34-22 victory over Dibba Al Huson. A win against Oman Club would secure their place in the next stage. "Oman Club is a strong rival and well balanced team with top players including the Bahraini professional player. We must use our positive momentum and learn from our mistakes in the loss to Al Arabi," coach Haitham al Rashidi said. Qatar's Al Arabi already secured a semifinal spot after consecutive victories over Dibba Al Huson and Oman Club. They will now seek a third straight win to confirm their dominance in Group B and build momentum for the semifinals.

Oman to host 41st Gulf Club Handball Championship on Saturday

Muscat – The 41st Gulf Club Handball Championship will commence on Saturday in Muscat, with the opening ceremony taking place under the patronage of H H Sayyid Mohammed bin Salim al Said. The opening ceremony will feature attendance of distinguished guests, including Moosa al Balushi, Chairman of the Oman Handball Association (OHA), and Jihad al Shaikh, chairman of the organising committee, alongside other officials. Sheikh said, 'Preparations for the tournament have been ongoing, with all logistical arrangements such as hotel bookings, transportation, and stadium preparations finalised.' As the tournament approaches, Oman and Seeb clubs are wrapping up their final preparations. Oman Club recently concluded an external training camp in Bahrain, securing two victories against Al Ahli Bahrain (32-25) and Al Dair Bahrain (33-30). These matches provided head coach Ibrahim Bouderbali with a key opportunity to evaluate his squad, test different strategies, and fine-tune tactics ahead of the competition. 'Our goal is to represent Oman in the best possible way and give our maximum effort in every match. Despite some injuries, we have a talented squad ready to step up when needed. Our focus is on maintaining high morale and delivering strong performances,' said Bouderbali. Oman's representatives, including Oman Club and Seeb, are under a comprehensive preparatory programme. Oman Club players are currently concluding their external training camp in Bahrain, where they played two friendly matches. Oman Club secured victories in both encounters, defeating Bahrain's Al Ahli club by 32-25 and Bahrain's Al Dair club by 33-30. Both matches provided a valuable opportunity for head coach Ibrahim Bouderbali to assess his squad's performance, test different combinations and refine tactics ahead of the competition. MUSCAT, FEB 10 The Sultanate of Oman, represented by Oman Club, is all set to host the 41st Gulf Club Handball Championship, which will begin on Saturday, February 10, and run until February 24 at the indoor hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The details of the Gulf event were unveiled during a press conference held on Monday at the headquarters of the Oman Olympic Committee in the presence of Jihad bin Abdullah al Shaikh, Chairman of the Organising Committee; Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, Chairman of the Oman Handball Association (OHA); Fareed Ramadhan, Treasurer at Oman Club; and officials of the tournament, alongside media representatives. Oman will participate in this tournament through two local clubs, including Oman Club and Seeb Club. Oman Club will compete in Group B against Kuwait SC (Kuwait), Dibba Al Hisn (UAE), and Al Arabi (Qatar), while Seeb is grouped with Al Rayyan (Qatar), Al Najma (Bahrain), and Al Noor (Saudi Arabia) in Group A. Jihad al Shaikh said, 'Oman Club, in collaboration with other stakeholders including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) and OHA, has completed all necessary preparations for the event, including accommodation, venue arrangements, transportation, and essential logistical requirements. The Gulf Technical Committee will oversee the technical aspects of the tournament, ensuring compliance with all necessary regulations.' He added, 'Thanks to the media for their presence and for playing a crucial role in ensuring the success of the championship in Oman. Hosting such events highlights the nation's strong commitment to sports and its ability to organise major regional tournaments. Oman's bid was among other bids to secure the rights to host this event. We are pleased that this event is happening in Oman, and this will be a great opportunity for the players and organising committee to showcase their top performance in this field.' The opening match will be between Kuwait SC and Qatar's Al Arabi, which will kick off at 6:30 pm, followed by Oman Club and Dibba Al Hisn at 6:30 pm on Saturday. The opening ceremony will take place on Saturday at 6:00 pm under the auspices of HH Sayyid Mohammed bin Salim al Said. UAE's Dibba Al Hisn arrived in Muscat as the first team and will hold a short camp ahead of the tournament. 'The team is currently holding a training camp in Muscat and has scheduled several friendly matches in preparation for the competition. On the other hand, Oman Club is currently in Bahrain for an external camp in Manama. The club will play a few friendly matches before the tournament begins in Muscat on Friday,' he said. 'As the organising committee, we have made a few changes at the indoor hall to meet international and Asian standards. Technically, this edition of the tournament will be very tough, as the clubs from Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain participated in the latest edition of the IHF World Cup Championship. Furthermore, a total of eight refereeing teams have been assigned to officiate the tournament, including representatives from Gulf countries and referees appointed by the IHF from Moldova and Montenegro,' he pointed out. 'The championship will be broadcast live throughout the tournament, with a dedicated sports studio for match analysis at Oman TV's sports channel. Additionally, several Gulf sports channels have expressed their interest in securing broadcasting rights,' he ended.
