(Photo by Ben Ludeman/NHLI via Getty Images) (Ben Ludeman via Getty Images) While everyone has been focusing on the Great 8's quest to break Wayne Gretzky's goal record this season, Sidney Crosby has quietly broken one of The Great One's records himself. On Thursday night, Crosby clinched his 20th point-per-game season, giving him the most point-per-game seasons in NHL history. Talk about consistency! Another Milestone for Crosby Crosby's legacy continues to grow: he has three Stanley Cups and two league MVPs, recently led Canada to its first 4 Nations Cup victory, and now he's surpassed one of Gretzky's records. It's no surprise that his collectibles have always been in high demand. Just last month, his game-worn 4 Nations jersey sold for $30,000. When it comes to his sports cards , his RCs have been a prized chase since he entered the league. Here are a few of his most prized: Advertisement 2005–06 The Cup Sidney Crosby RC #180 - Released in 2005–06 as Upper Deck's inaugural high-end set, The Cup Hockey coincided perfectly with Crosby's rookie year. This card is one of his rarest, regularly fetching at least five figures at auctions. One is currently listed on Goldin (ending March 29th), and in 2022, one variation sold for $91,800 . Check it out on eBay-> 2005–06 Sidney Crosby Rookie Card #201 Young Guns - One of his most recognizable rookie cards, the Young Guns series is widely regarded as one of hockey's most popular non-autographed sets. In the past 30 days, PSA 10 copies have sold for between $2,780 and $2,880 - still expensive, but considerably more attainable than The Cup RC. Check it out on eBay-> 2005–06 Ice Sidney Crosby Rookie Card #106 - Only 99 were made, and it's arguably one of his highest-quality cards. This Ice Premiere release boasts a signature clear, modern look, printed on acetate. Demand and pricing for this card are sky-high due to its low print run, with a raw copy selling for nearly $12,000 back in September of last year - not cheap! Advertisement Check it out on eBay-> 2005–06 Trilogy Sidney Crosby Rookie Card #211 - Featuring a numbered run (/999) from the Upper Deck Trilogy series, this card offers a mix of eye appeal and rarity. Prices have stayed relatively accessible as far as a Crosby RC goes, often landing in the few-hundred-dollar range for most grades. Check it out on eBay-> What's Next for Sid? There isn't much left for Crosby to prove - he's done it all, from Stanley Cups to Olympic gold medals. Crosby is currently climbing the NHL's all-time scoring list, sitting in ninth place and on track to surpass Mario Lemieux for eighth next season. Given how well he continues to perform , it's not far-fetched to imagine he'll finish among the league's top five point scorers by the end of his career. For collectors looking to score a prime Crosby rookie card, there's no time like the present. Your collection deserves a community. Download Mantel today.

Wayne Gretzky's wife: Canada criticism of star's Donald Trump ties has 'broken his heart'
Wayne Gretzky's wife: Canada criticism of star's Donald Trump ties has 'broken his heart' Show Caption Hide Caption Alex Ovechkin may break Wayne Gretzky's NHL goal record this season Washington Capitals' Alex Ovechkin is so close to the NHL goal record that he may break that record this year, even coming off an injury. Sports Seriously Wayne Gretzky, the Canadian hockey legend known around the world as "The Great One," is suddenly in a big pickle in his home country because of his relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump. Gretzky, 64, served as the honorary captain for Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game in Boston on Feb. 20, and his presence created more fuel for a brewing controversy north of the border. The greatest hockey player of all-time has faced criticism in his homeland over his association with Trump in light of the president's political threats related to tariffs and comments about Canada becoming the 51st state of the United States. The negative rhetoric led Trump, fellow Canadian hockey legend Bobby Orr and Gretzky's wife to defend his national pride in recent days. Orr wrote an op-ed for the Toronto Sun last Saturday to express his disappointment at the treatment Gretzky received for his appearance on behalf of Canada's hockey team last week, while Trump posted on his social media website, Truth Social, in an apparent effort to help Gretzky. NHL TRADE DEADLINE: Who could be moved? Possible sellers, players Janet Jones Gretzky, who attended Trump's presidential inauguration in Washington last month with her husband, then posted a thank you to Orr on her Instagram account Thursday. The caption offered a glimpse into the toll this controversy is taking on Wayne Gretzky. "I have never met anyone who is more Proud to be a Canadian and it has broken his heart to read and see the mean comments," Janet Jones Gretzky wrote. "He would do anything to make Canadians Proud, with his Love for Hockey and his Country." The rising political tension between the United States and Canada since Trump returned to the White House in January coincided with the NHL's first 4 Nations Cup this year, and it helped create a level of interest in the tournament that caught even the most staunch hockey supporters by surprise. Trump called the American team to wish them luck ahead of the game and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau needled Trump on social media after Canada's 3-2 overtime win. Trump, in reference to Canada joining the United States as the 51st state, declared Gretzky a "free agent" on social media Wednesday in an effort to demonstrate Gretzky supports an independent Canada. "Wayne is my friend, and he wants to make me happy, and is therefore somewhat "low key" about Canada remaining a separate Country," Trump wrote, in part. "... He's the Greatest Canadian of them all, and I am therefore making him a 'free agent,' because I don't want anyone in Canada to say anything bad about him. He supports Canada the way it is, as he should, even though it's not nearly as good as it could be as part of the Greatest and Most Powerful Country in the World, the Good Ole' U.S.A.!" Orr was the first notable hockey figure to publicly back Gretzky as more Canadians turned against one of its country's sports heroes and called for him to speak out against Trump's recent comments regarding Canada. Some fans in Edmonton even started an online petition for a freeway named after Gretzky to be changed. It had more than 10,000 signatures as of Thursday. "How fickle can people be, when someone who has given so much time and effort to Canadian hockey is treated in such a way," Orr wrote in the op-ed. "Listen, we all have our personal beliefs as they pertain to things such as religion and politics. Wayne respects your right to such beliefs – why can't you respect his?" Known as "The Great One" during a 20-year career with the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers, Gretzky is the league's all-time leader in points, goals and assists. Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin is currently on the verge of passing his goals record. Gretzky represented Canada in international competition throughout his career, including the 1998 Nagano Olympics when NHL players were allowed to participate for the first time. He was executive director of the 2002 Olympic team that won gold in Salt Lake City and ended Canada's 50-year championship drought. Gretzky retired from playing professional hockey in 1999 and later became part-owner and coach of the Arizona Coyotes. He's currently a studio analyst for TNT.

Donald Trump says 'free agent' Wayne Gretzky wants Canada to stay Canadian
Donald Trump says his friend Wayne Gretzky doesn't agree with him that Canada should become the 51st state, and that's fine by him. In a post Wednesday evening on Truth Social, his social media site, the U.S. president says the retired hockey player, who has come under fire from some Canadians for remaining silent amid Trump's manifest destiny musings, is a 'fantastic guy' who could win any political office in Canada. 'Wayne is my friend, and he wants to make me happy, and is therefore somewhat 'low key' about Canada remaining a separate Country, rather than becoming a cherished and beautiful 51st State, paying much Lower Taxes, a Free and Powerful Military, NO TARIFFS, and having a Booming Economy,' Trump posted. 'Wayne and Janet, his wonderful wife, love Canada, and they should only support Canada, and whatever else makes the Canadian People, and Governor Justin Trudeau, happy. He's the Greatest Canadian of them all, and I am therefore making him a 'free agent,' because I don't want anyone in Canada to say anything bad about him. 'He supports Canada the way it is, as he should, even though it's not nearly as good as it could be as part of the Greatest and Most Powerful Country in the World, the Good Ole' U.S.A.!' Gretzky is close with Trump, having attended an election-night event at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in November. Trump has previously suggested Gretzky run for prime minister — or rather governor — of America's 51st state. Gretzky was booed after being picked as honorary captain of Team Canada at the 4 Nations Cup final that saw Canada beat the U.S. 3-2 in overtime last week. Before the game, he was coy about whether his first country — he now holds dual Canadian-American citizenship — would win, which it ultimately did. 'It's going to be tremendous hockey,' he said from the NHL Board of Governors meeting on Monday, reports. 'I'm not sure who is going to win, but I'm just saying as a Canadian, I think our team matches up very good against the Americans.' Wayne Gretzky was booed during Canada-USA hockey cup final. Jets Hit the Beaches Sitting First-Place in Just About Everything
As the Winnipeg Jets' schedule break already enters Day 3, the fantasy football loving team from Winnipeg will likely all be tuning in remotely to watch Sunday's Super Bowl. Where they watch from will likely vary from player to player, as the 20-some-odd individuals making up Winnipeg's day-to-day roster are currently off the hook and allowed to travel wherever they so please for the duration of the calendar break that includes the two-week 4 Nations Cup. View the to see embedded media. Three members of the Jets will be participating in the event, with Kyle Connor and Connor Hellebuyck representing the United States, while Josh Morrissey will suit up for Canada, beginning this Wednesday. But for the rest of the team, players have already jetted off to various destinations roughly 60 degrees celsius warmer than that of -30° Winnipeg. But for those abroad, managing to find a television playing the big game on Sunday could be a slight challenge. Challenge, however, has not been much of a word around the Jets' dressing room so far this season. With two thirds of the 2024-25 campaign now completed, Winnipeg sits first, league-wide in points with 81. The Jets are also first in wins with 39, regulation wins (33), regulation plus overtime wins (39), goals for (202), goals against (134), goal differential (+68), they own the best home record (22-5-3) and are currently riding their second eight-game winning streak of the year. Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele are 6th and 13th, respectively, among the NHL's point leaders, while Scheifele sits third in goals scored, with Connor one goal behind him. The Jets have three players producing at over a point-per-game, with Nikolaj Ehlers joining Scheifele and Connor in that statistical category. The team has eight double-digit goal scorers and 10 players with over 25 points on the season. Only two players on the team have negative +/- scores, with 11 players boasting a +10 rating or better. Dylan Samberg (+21) and Dylan DeMelo (+26) rank among the league leaders in that category. Talking about leaders, reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck is having himself the best season of his 10-year career. He leads all goaltenders with 34 wins (eight better than the next best backstop), he has made the most saves of any goalie, while spending the most time on the ice, league-wide. His 2.06 goals against average and .925 save percentage are league bests. Hellebuyck also owns a staggering six shutouts already on the season. With two weeks off in warmer weather, head coach Scott Arniel hopes his boys in blue return back home in the same shape they left Manitoba. Next up is a test against St. Louis in Missouri on February 22.
