Day After Operation Sindoor, 13 Killed In J&K As Pakistan Army Again Resorts To Cross-Border Shelling

Last Updated: Earlier in the morning, Pakistan again resorted to cross-border shelling in the Karnah area of J&K's Kupwara district for the second day in a row. Nearly 36 hours after India's military action on terror camps, the Pakistan Army continued shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in four sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a befitting response by the Indian Army. Earlier in the morning, Pakistan again resorted to cross-border shelling in the Karnah area of J&K's Kupwara district for the second day in a row, after India launched 'Operation Sindoor' targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Thursday's shelling was the 14th consecutive night of firing along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir amid heightened tension following the Pahalgam attack.m The Pakistan Army on Wednesday carried out one of the most intense artillery and mortar shelling in years, targeting the forward villages in J&K against 'Operation Sindoor'. The unprovoked firing using small arms and artillery guns across the LoC was carried out in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor sectors. However, the Indian Army responded proportionately. 13 People Killed In Pakistan Shelling At least 13 people, including four children and a soldier, were killed and 57 injured as the Pakistan Army carried out one of the most intense artillery and mortar shelling in years targeting forward villages along the LoC. Among the 13 persons killed in the Pakistani shelling was Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of the 5-Field Regiment. Following Islamabad's shelling in border areas, hundreds of residents were moved to safer areas in view of the flare-up. The residents were forced to take refuge in underground bunkers or shift to safer places as the indiscriminate shelling by Pakistan destroyed houses, vehicles and various buildings, including a Gurdwara. Three Sikh men also lost their lives when an artillery shell hit a Gurdwara and adjoining houses in Poonch town. Several political parties, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, also condemned the attack. Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said, 'Strongly condemn the inhuman attack by Pakistani forces on the sacred Central Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Sahib in Poonch, in which three innocent Gursikhs, including Bhai Amrik Singh Ji (a raagi Singh), Bhai Amarjeet Singh and Bhai Ranjit Singh lost their lives." The shelling was reported from all along the LoC in Poonch, including Balakote, Mendhar, Mankote, Krishna Ghati, Gulpur, Kerni and even Poonch district headquarters. Educational Institutions In J&K To Remain Closed In view of the escalating tension, the authorities have ordered that all educational institutions in the five border districts of the Jammu region will remain closed for the second day on Thursday. Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said that all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts will remain closed for the second day on Thursday in view of the prevailing situation. The administration in Jammu division has also set up 24×7 control rooms in all the 10 districts of the region. India Strikes Pakistan The Indian armed forces carried out missile attacks on nine terror targets — four in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) — early on Wednesday to avenge the April 22 terror attack in south Kashmir's Pahalgam that left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday briefed his cabinet colleagues about India's Pahalgam revenge and retaliatory strikes against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK under Operation Sindoor, calling it a 'moment of pride for all of us".
