Science at the core of Vikshit Bharat vision, says Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Global Young Scientists Summit

Science is regenerative and integral to the vision of Vikshit Bharat, and economic strength is complemented by scientific excellence, said Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan. Speaking at the inaugural of Global Young Scientists Summit here at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Hyderabad on Tuesday, he said India is at the forefront of the global knowledge movement, with an education system that is flexible and aligned with its civilisational ethos. The vital components of this journey, he said, are cross-cultural learning and talent exchange. He said initiatives like Atal Tinkering Labs and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Act reflect India's commitment to nurturing grassroots innovation and supporting high-quality interdisciplinary research. The Global Young Scientists annual general meeting, being hosted for the first time in the country, involves 135 delegates representing 60 countries and 65 national delegates, for in-depth dialogue and strategic engagement among emerging leaders in the global scientific community. The conference features sessions on environmental, social, and governance, health and nutrition for global wellness, Industry 5.0: augmenting human-machine interface, and innovation and entrepreneurship: global landscape. President of the Indian National Science Academy Asutosh Sharma observed that the future lies in autonomous decision making driven by the integration of both sciences and social sciences. He referred to 'March of Technology' and underlined the importance of a global understanding to address global challenges. Updated Whoop released, will now even record blood pressure

Whoop expands its wearable journey with the launch of two updated fitness trackers — the Whoop 5.0 and the Whoop MG — both unveiled on May 8. Both devices are designed to deliver industry-leading features such as Healthspan with Whoop Age, an on-demand ECG Heart Screener, and detailed Blood Pressure Insights, setting a new benchmark for fitness and health tracking technology. With these devices, the company has also updated the Whoop app experience. But before we delve into the features, let's take a look at the design of these 5.0 and Whoop MG: DesignIn terms of design, both devices are receiving a fresh look. Whoop is rolling out new straps in silicone, leather, and patterned knit, elevating the aesthetic appeal while keeping the brand's signature screen-free design intact—a feature that has made it popular with both elite athletes and everyday health enthusiasts. The company revealed that even though the devices are 7 per cent more compact than previous models, they offer an impressive 14-day battery life. Commenting on the launch, Will Ahmed, the Founder & CEO of Wooph, said in a blog post: 'This isn't just a product launch. It's a new chapter for Whoop and for our members. We've taken everything we've learned over the past decade and built a platform to help our members perform and live at their peak for longer. We've held nothing back.'advertisement'Whoop is a great tool. It's like a doctor on my wrist. Whoop 5.0 promises to help you age backwards – so I put it to the test

When I asked Whoop's founder Will Ahmed about the launch of the 5.0 last year he didn't reveal much. In fact, he led me to believe the brand wasn't likely to roll out a new iteration at all. Instead, he promised meaningful updates to the existing band that would make it easier to track and improve your health. 'We like to ship what we've got today, and just emphasise that,' he told me. 'We want to make sure that if we do launch new hardware, it's a total game changer.' Ahmed also stressed that Whoop is in a class of its own and therefore didn't need the features that most of the fitness tracker market has come to depend on – like a watch face or a step counter. I agree that Whoop is a one-of-a-kind experience and I'll happily call myself a fan now, but I and the rest of the Whoop community knew that if we kept asking, we'd eventually get our step counter and that if we were patient, we would also get a 5.0. The day has finally arrived and Whoop has launched the latest version of its coveted fitness tracker – a smarter, smaller, slimmer model with better battery life, aesthetic accessories and a host of new intelligent features. I was among the first in the UK to trial the 5.0, putting its capabilities to the test and comparing it with its predecessor, and other fitness tech I've tried. As someone who regularly spends their time being scanned and tracked in the name of health and wellness, I was keen to see whether the new Whoop would set a new standard for other wearables to catch up to and whether it might have the power to compete with a new wave of longevity clinics popping up across the UK. How I tested I was fortunate to have an exclusive preview of the 5.0 and wore it every day for a month to fully test every one of the new features. Throughout the testing period, it didn't once come off my wrist – not even during charging – so I could build a clear picture with my data. You can charge the Whoop while it's on your body so I wore it around the clock, downloading the data from the night before on the app each morning and adjusting my workout, recovery and sleep plans based on my scores. I also cross-referenced the data with my Oura ring for the first and second week and with my Eight Sleep for the whole month to determine how accurate the Whoop was in comparison. I also used compatible apps, including the Apple Health app and the Withings app for a clearer picture of my health, and hardware (the Withings blood pressure connect monitor) to see what the tech was capable of as the month went on. I used the data to analyse the key Whoop metrics like sleep, strain and recovery after exercise and rest days but I also used some of the more in-depth metrics, the AI assistant and features like breathing exercises to boost my scores across the month. Beyond this, I considered the Whoop 5.0's new weight, style, battery life and accessories. The Whoop 5.0 is here to make fitness bands cool again

Table of Contents Table of Contents Whoop 5.0 hardware Whoop 5.0 new features Whoop price tiers The Whoop 5.0 is here to make fitness bands cool again. Unlike the best smartwatches, the Whoop does not have a screen and doesn't mirror anything from your phone, so it's distraction-free. While smart rings have taken a lot of fitness band functionality and put it on your finger, Whoop feels there's still plenty of life left in a primarily wrist-worn health tracker. With new hardware, new features, and a new subscription package, there's a lot to understand, so lets go through the Whoop 5.0. Whoop 5.0 hardware There are two versions of the new Whoop: the Whoop 5.0 and the Whoop MG. The Whoop MG has a medical-grade, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved electrocardiogram (ECG) feature which is missing from the Whoop 5.0. Otherwise, the two appear to be identical. The case is seven percent smaller than the Whoop 4.0, but retains the same unusual strap system, which clips around the main body. Recommended Videos The body contains a set of enhanced sensors, an upgraded haptic engine, improved accelerometer and gyroscope, and a redesigned processor that's 10 times more efficient than the previous model. This has enabled a 14 day battery life, plus another 14 days from the Wireless PowerPack. This is another idiosyncrasy carried over from the last Whoop, where the battery pack is required to charge the main body, and also acts as a battery pack for recharging on the move. While the Whoop 5.0 is made for the wrist and you can get a variety of different straps for it, what makes it even more unusual is the range of sports clothing with special pockets for the Whoop 5.0. These include compression shirts, bralettes, briefs, and bike shorts. Other 'Pods' are available so you can wear the Whoop in other ways. A brief hands-on with the Whoop MG better shows the reduction in size, as it feels lighter and less pronounced on your wrist. The clasp and strap is still a bit of a pain to adjust, and it's often a bit too tight or a bit too loose, but the strap is elasticated so it should gradually stretch to the correct size. The most premium fabric strap is attached to the Whoop MG and mine comes in black with a silver clasp, and it looks modern and cool. As before though, the Whoop takes up wrist space without providing the time or any other information, so you may choose to wear it opposite a watch. Whoop 5.0 new features Wear the Whoop 5.0 to track more than 145 different activities, count your daily steps, and measure specific data points like V02 Max and muscular strain during strength training workouts, plus overnight to measure sleep and receive a Sleep Score based on a revised algorithm to better reflect sleep quality. The Whoop 5.0 also has cycle tracking with insights into hormonal shifts and how they affect sleep, stress, and recovery. Beyond these basics, the Whoop 5.0 will show a new data set called Healthspan. It's geared more towards long-term health, and examines nine different metrics to calculate your Whoop Age and Pace of Aging. Whoop claims it goes further than any estimates of your cardiovascular age, and comes with its own personalized advice to help you improve long-term health. Using a new technology, the Whoop 5.0 will be able to estimate your blood pressure too, after calibrating the band using a traditional blood pressure monitor. Finally, the ECG feature looks for irregular heart rhythms and will alert the wearer if any abnormalities are noticed. In the future there will also be the option to book blood tests and have the results directly integrate into the Whoop app. Whoop price tiers If all this sounds good, now we get to the part where some confusion and frustration may set in, because Whoop is introducing a new subscription system with the band, and it's based on the features you require. There are three price tiers — Whoop One, Whoop Peak, and Whoop Life — and access to features differ depending on the one you choose. The Whoop band is included in the price, and there's a lifetime warranty for it with all three plans. It's easier to show the differences in a table. For reference, an O indicates the feature is included, while an X indicates it is not available on that plan. Feature Whoop One Whoop Peak Whoop Life Sleep, Strain, and Recovery O O O Personalized Coaching O O O V02 Max/Heart Rate Zones O O O Cycle Tracking O O O Healthspan and Pace of Aging X O O Health Monitor/Health Alerts X O O Real-time Stress Monitor X O O Blood Pressure X X O ECG and Heart Screener X X O Advanced Health Sensing X X O Strap CoreKnit SuperKnit SuperKnit Luxe Charger Basic Wired Waterproof Wireless PowerPack Waterproof Wireless PowerPack Price $199 per year $239 per year $359 per year What it means is, if you want the full Whoop experience with the ECG monitoring, blood pressure, and the rather nebulous Advanced Health Sensing you have to select the top package. It's also worth noting if you're interested in the blood test feature, it will be an additional cost regardless of which tier you select, but it will be available on all of them. Some features, such as the ECG Heart Screener and blood test results are region specific. Whoop 5.0 is available to buy from Whoop's website, Amazon, and retailers including Best Buy.
