Bob MacIntyre named Ryder Cup must as he rockets into a huge summer

Scottish star gunning for glory in Canada again and tipped for Ryder Cup Building Bob MacIntyre has been dubbed a Ryder Cup must as he prepares for a huge summer ahead of Bethpage. The Scottish star geared-up for the defence of his RBC Canadian Open title this week with another strong PGA Tour showing at The Memorial Tournament. ‌ MacIntyre backed-up a tied-sixth at he Charles Schwab Challenge with a tied-20th at Muirfield Village behind winner Scottie Scheffler to maintain his push towards peak form. ‌ The Oban star heads to Ontario looking to reclaim Canada's National Open and will do the same on home soil next month when he returns for the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club. MacIntyre, who also has a US Open and Open on the schedule, is moving strongly into position for qualification for Luke Donald's European side for New York through automatic positioning or a pick. Former PGA Tour and Presidents Cup star Brendon De Jonge has no doubts that the Scot will be amongst the dozen visitors aiming to raid Bethpage in September as, when assessing the potential make-up of the trophy holders, he told 5 Clubs: 'I've got a couple guys that are right now just on the outside. "They're going to play their way onto the team, Robert McIntyre being one of those guys. I think Robert is going to find a way to play well through the summer, coming up to a couple golf tournaments that he's defending. 'Robert will be there and the fact that he acquitted himself so well in Rome the last time they played, I think he's going to be that guy that we see as well.' ‌ MacIntyre was an automatic qualifier for the Ryder Cup team last time when they defeated the United States in Italy. The 28-year-old came through the process to secure a place in Donald's line-up and proved himself worthy of the spot as won two-and-a-half points from his three matches alongside partner Justin Rose in fourballs and with a singles win over Wyndham Clark. Now MacIntyre is back on the charge for a second-straight appearance at the Ryder Cup as Donald's men aim to retain in the States. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. 'Uber talented' golf star tipped for Ryder Cup to complete incredible journey from betting ban to Bethpage

Marco Penge has caught the attention and PGA Tour winner says he can be the new Ludvig Aberg. Rising English star Marco Penge is being tipped to go from a betting ban to Bethpage inside nine incredible months. The 27-year-old is grabbing attention with his golfing excellence and is being backed to give European Ryder Cup skipper Luke Donald a major decision to make for September. ‌ Last December, Penge received a three-month ban, one year suspended, by the DP World Tour for placing bets on multiple events. ‌ Tour chiefs made it clear he did not bet on himself or tournaments he was participating in, but the punishment stood and he was also fined £2,000. However, Penge has responded superbly since his return to the game in mid-February and rocketed to success in April's Hainan Classic. He has continued to catch the eye and he performed impressively at Quail Hollow in the second Major of the year to come inside the Top 30 at the PGA Championship, won by Scottie Scheffler. His work has been noted by PGA pro and analyst Brendon de Jonge who believes the Englishman could launch a shock summer run for a place in the side to meet the United States in New York. Captain Donald pulled a rabbit from the hat two years ago when selecting Ludvig Aberg as a wild-card pick less than a year into his first full season. ‌ The smooth Swede repaid that faith with a terrific display at Marco Simeone as Europe won the trophy and de Jonge isn't ruling out a repeat with Penge taking the role of Aberg. Assessing potential Euro selections for the matches in the autumn, he told 5 Clubs podcast: 'Marco Penge. This guy, he got his first win on the DP World Tour and I was fortunate enough to watch him play a little bit at the PGA Championship. "Guy hits it absolute miles, cruising around that 190 mile an hour ball speed. CrBig, tall guy. This guy is uber, uber talented. I think he might be the Ludvig Aberg of this iteration of the Ryder Cup here. "He's going to be one of those guys that's going to play his way close and give Luke Donald a difficult decision to make.'
