WNBA Reacts to Major A'ja Wilson Announcement on Wednesday
WNBA Reacts to Major A'ja Wilson Announcement on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Aces entered Wednesday night coming off an impressive home victory over the Indiana Fever on Sunday, which snapped a three-game skid and improved their record to 6-7. Advertisement Despite some early-season struggles, the Aces appear to be finding their rhythm. They took a 40-29 lead into halftime against the Connecticut Sun as they looked to climb back to .500. However, the spotlight on Wednesday quickly shifted to Aces superstar and reigning WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson, who reached a historic milestone that drew a reaction from the league. After posting eight points, four rebounds, and three assists in the first half, Wilson became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 5,000 career points — achieving the feat in just 238 games. "More greatness from the three-time M'VP," WNBA posted. The record was previously held by New York Liberty superstar and WNBA champion Breanna Stewart, who reached 5,000 points in 242 games. Advertisement Wilson, who was drafted in 2018, has been a dominant force since entering the league. She's earned All-Star honors every year of her career except for 2020 — a season in which she appeared in only 22 games. A'ja WilsonGetty The former South Carolina standout is already a three-time MVP, two-time WNBA champion, five-time All-WNBA selection, and four-time All-Defensive team honoree. Now, she's further cementing her legacy as one of the greatest scorers of the modern era. This season, Wilson is averaging 21.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.6 blocks, and 1.9 steals per game, while shooting 43.4% from the field, 22.2% from three-point range, and 85.2% from the free-throw line.
