MIRI (May 11): A total of 86 swimmers here were honoured for outstanding performances in 2024. Transport Minister and Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin officiated a ceremony to award incentives held at the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Senadin branch.
'Your achievements bring pride not only to your families and coaches but to Miri and Sarawak as a whole,' he said. Sports such as swimming, he added, play a vital role in developing resilience, teamwork and focus among youths.
The awards were given out to swimmers who did well in key events last year including the Sukma XXI, SEA Age Group Championships and 60th Malaysia Invitational Age Group (MIAG) Championships. Four of the 86 were para swimmers.
Lee also commended Miri Amateur Swimming Association (Masa) for its efforts in nurturing swimming talent in Miri over the years.
'I have witnessed Masa grow into a dynamic and effective sports body. Your dedication deserves our full recognition and support,' he remarked.
The minister announced a RM20,000 allocation to Masa to support its training and development programmes.
Meanwhile, Masa vice president Amy Ting Ling Ling expressed pride in the swimmers.
'We are seeing steady improvement year after year and I truly believe we have a bright future ahead,' she said. award incentives Lee Kim Shin swimmers
