Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift compete for American Music Awards
FILE PHOTO: Taylor Swift poses at the red carpet during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, U.S., February 2, 2025. REUTERS/Daniel Cole/File Photo Super Bowl headliner and Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar faces off with Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Beyonce and other artists on Monday at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas. Rapper Lamar leads the field of contenders with 10 nominations. The red-carpet show will be broadcast live on CBS starting at 8 p.m. Eastern (Midnight GMT), and singer Jennifer Lopez will host. Winners of the AMAs are selected by fan votes. The top prize, artist of the year, pits Lamar against pop superstar Swift, who has earned more AMAs - 40 - over her career than any other musician. She also is coming off the highest-grossing concert tour in history. Others in the running for artist of the year are Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Morgan Wallen, Billie Eilish, Zack Bryan and SZA. "Not Like Us," Lamar's ubiquitous diss track from his longstanding feud with Canadian rapper Drake, is contending for song of the year. Drake has sued Universal Music Group for defamation over its release. Lamar performed "Not Like Us" at February's Super Bowl, and the song won five Grammys. Among other AMA nominees, Post Malone is vying for eight awards including favorite male country artist and favorite country album for "F-1 Trillion." He previously won AMAs in rap/hip hop and pop/rock categories. Beyonce's "Cowboy Carter," winner of the top award at this year's Grammys, was nominated for album of the year and favorite country album at the AMAs. She also is nominated for favorite female country artist. During the ceremony, Janet Jackson will be honored with the Icon award, an accolade for artists with global influence, and Rod Stewart will receive a lifetime achievement award. Performers will include Lopez, Jackson, Stewart, Benson Boone, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Lainey Wilson. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

Kanye West concert in South Korea cancelled over ‘controversies'
Kanye West and Bianca Censori pose at the red carpet during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, U.S., February 2, 2025. (REUTERS) SEOUL--South Korean e-commerce company Coupang has canceled a Kanye West concert scheduled for late May 'due to recent controversies involving the artist,' the company and a ticket vendor said on Monday. Coupang and the Interpark ticket outlet did not elaborate on the controversies involving West, who is now known as Ye. The U.S. rapper's latest controversy involves a song released this month entitled 'Heil Hitler,' which praises the Nazi leader and architect of the Holocaust. The sportswear company Adidas ended their shoe collaboration with West in October 2022 over a series of antisemitic rants and sold the last pair of his Yeezy branded shoes in March. Coupang and Interpark said all the tickets that had been sold for the single show in Incheon on May 31 would be fully refunded. Coupang, whose streaming service, Coupang Play, was organizing the concert, also suspended the sale of merchandise by West's Yeezy fashion line on Monday, it said.

Beyoncé's Old Parenting Comments Resurface Amid Blue Ivy's Tour Appearance
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. An old interview with Beyoncé has resurfaced with fans praising the superstar's unwavering parenting philosophy with regards to daughter Blue Ivy Carter's meteoric rise to fame. In the clip from The Early Show in June 2001, when Beyoncé was still performing as part of Destiny's Child and promoting the group's Survivor album, the singer was asked whether she would allow her future daughter to pursue a career like hers. Her answer was: "Definitely, if she wanted to do it. But I would make sure she knew all of the hard work that came with it." Now 13, Blue Ivy is living proof that her mother meant what she said. File photo: Beyoncé, left, accepts the Album of the Year award for "Cowboy Carter" with Blue Ivy Carter onstage during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards at Arena on February 2, 2025 in Los Angeles,... File photo: Beyoncé, left, accepts the Album of the Year award for "Cowboy Carter" with Blue Ivy Carter onstage during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards at Arena on February 2, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. More Kevin Winter / Staff/Getty Images Entertainment A Beyoncé fan on X, formerly Twitter, @nessasgroove, shared a video compilation, which garnered over 624,600 likes and more than 3.5 million views, with the caption: "I see A LOT of people saying Beyoncé is forcing Blue Ivy to be on stage. This is what she wants to do and clearly enjoys dancing on stage with her mother." The teenager recently made headlines after joining her mom onstage to open the Cowboy Carter tour at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium. Blue Ivy dazzled as she danced to "Déjà Vu" and took center stage for "America Has a Problem," earning widespread praise for her talent. But Blue Ivy's place under the spotlight wasn't handed to her—she earned it. Newsweek has reached out to Beyoncé's publicist for comment. In Beyoncé's 2023 Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, the superstar opened up about her daughter's desire to perform and the resistance she initially felt. "Blue told me she was ready to perform, and I told her no. I did not think it was an appropriate place for an 11-year-old on a stadium stage," Beyoncé said. "All the things that I had to go through and obstacles I had to overcome prepared me, and she hasn't had that struggle. I made a deal with her, and I said, if you practice and you show your commitment, I'll let you do one show." That single show became many. Blue Ivy appeared at several stops on the Renaissance tour, though her journey wasn't without setbacks. After seeing harsh criticism on social media about her early performances, the young dancer doubled down on her efforts. What followed was a transformation. "I feel like now my mindset has changed, and now I actually have to wake up in the morning and go to rehearsals. And I have to actually work hard," Blue Ivy said in the documentary. That work ethic paid off. Fans and critics alike noted Blue Ivy's improvement, with one TikTok comment reading: "Blue Ivy trained harder for the Renaissance Tour after reading comments about her lackluster dance moves." Jai commented: "She has EVERYTHING at her disposal & CHOOSES to put in the work for what she wants out of life. Anyone that doesn't respect that, is just miserable." "That baby could've gave up after all the hate but she let it fuel her instead," posted Mylie. Now hailed online as "the greatest nepo baby in world history," Blue Ivy is proving that she is more than her last name. While her parents—Beyoncé and Jay-Z—are estimated to be worth a combined $3 billion, Blue Ivy is carving out a name of her own. She already holds a Grammy for her vocals on "Brown Skin Girl"; earned praise for her recent voice acting in Mufasa: The Lion King; and is estimated to have a net worth exceeding $500 million—before even reaching high school. Blue Ivy continues to shine alongside her mother as an integral part of the Beyhive in the worldwide Cowboy Carter tour, which spans 32 dates. The question remains if Rumi will follow in the same path as her sister, after joining her mom on stage in an adorable embrace during the opening night of the tour.

Are There Empty Seats At Beyonce's Cowboy Carter Tour? What We Know
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. While Beyonce may be known as Queen Bey, some fans have reported her new Cowboy Carter tour to be a little lacking when it comes to the audience department. Photographs and videos have circulated online revealing that many seats at the Beyonce concert tour are empty, indicating the show has not been as successful as anticipated by fans. Newsweek reached out to representatives for Beyonce for comment via email. Why It Matters The Cowboy Carter tour kicked off on Monday at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The show lasts two hours and 45 minutes and features songs from Beyonce's Grammy Award-winning album Cowboy Carter. Past hits were also included in the song lineup, like Crazy in Love and Formation. While Beyonce has an estimated net worth of $760 million as of May 2024, according to Forbes, empty stadium seats in her new show could indicate the Cowboy Carter show is bringing in fewer ticket sales than past tours. Beyoncé accepts the Best Country Album award for "COWBOY CARTER" onstage during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards at Arena on February 02, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Beyoncé accepts the Best Country Album award for "COWBOY CARTER" onstage during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards at Arena on February 02, 2025 in Los Angeles, The Recording Academy What To Know Many fans have posted photographs and videos on social media sharing their shock at the Cowboy Carter tour being relatively empty. One X user @SaintMateos posted a picture showing several empty seats: "Why is my cowboy carter show so empty … where is everyone?" Another social media user @artemxcx said: "the way cowboy carter tour is happening right now and it's not making any noise whatsoever." Some photographs appear to show entirely empty sections of the arena for Cowboy Carter. "Cowboy Carter tour? More like Empty tour," wrote @BeyIsOver on X. Cowboy Carter tour? More like Empty tour — victor🦄 (@beyisover) April 29, 2025 Yet another expressed shock over how the pop and R&B star's tour hadn't sold out. "Cowboy carter tour starting tonight and half the tickets remain unsold omg this is bad," @jdkaknak wrote on the platform. According to Ticketmaster, many Cowboy Carter tickets remain on sale for as low as $66 for May shows. Tickets originally went on sale on February 14 and had a hefty price of roughly $250. The dwindling ticket sales is unusual for Beyonce, whose most recent "Renaissance World Tour" brought in $579 million, making it the highest-grossing tour by a Black artist. Previously, Beyonce beat that record with her "Formation World Tour," according to Investopedia. Cowboy Carter earned the Album of the Year award at the Grammys, and Beyonce also brought home the Best Country Album award. What People Are Saying X user @Himu_Art wrote: "The only noise CowDung Carter made was having empty seats & not being sold out." @ThePopStuff also posted on X: "Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" tour is STRUGGLING to fill thousands of empty seats in its 29/32 UNSOLD shows." "Ticketmaster is now arbitrarily re-accomodating fans' seats to the front floor in order to make the shows look "full." Will these desperate tactics save her LOW DEMAND tour?" What Happens Next While the tour kicked off on Monday, Beyonce has announced the first nine tour stops for Cowboy Carter, which include Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, London, Paris, Houston, Atlanta, Washington, D.C, and Las Vegas. Billboard predicted in March that the tour would generate approximately $294 million in revenue and sell between 1.1 to 1.2 million tickets.
