Unbelievable twin telepathy? Watch these Aussie sisters speak as one and amaze the world

Identical twins Bridgette and Paula Powers are making waves with their surreal synchronised speech. Image: Screenshot You know when besties or couples try to finish each other's sentences, and it's clearly scripted? We all just smile, nod and pretend it's sweet, not weird. But what if two people genuinely spoke in unison, naturally and effortlessly? Meet Bridgette and Paula Powers, known as "The Twinnies" from Queensland, Australia. These 50-year-old identical twins have recently gone viral for their unique ability to speak in perfect harmony, leaving social media users both baffled and amused. In a recent interview with "7News Queensland", the twins recounted a carjacking incident involving their mother. As they detailed the event, their synchronised speech and mirrored gestures left viewers both astonished and amused. Dressed identically, they narrated the ordeal in perfect harmony, making it seem as though a single voice was echoing. 'He was coming back down towards us and he goes, 'Run, he's got a gun',' they said. They. Not she. Same rhythm, same inflections, same everything. The dramatic retelling continued: 'He pulled up the car… what was over the road there… he went and approached that car and pulled the young girl out… her mum was in the car too and she goes, 'Yes, take my car.'' It sounds like a scene from a soapie, but their synchronised delivery made it even more surreal. And they weren't even trying to be dramatic, this is apparently just how they talk every day. In a follow-up appearance on "The Project", the twins addressed the synchronisation. 'We have tried to talk separately,' they said, once again, in eerie harmony. 'But we're not ourselves. It's very hard.' This video of these eerily in sync Australian twins is going viral. (1 min, 10 sec) — Carmandy Graff (@GraffCarmandy) April 24, 2025 Now, before you blame aliens or assume it's some social stunt, it turns out this kind of twin telepathy isn't completely unheard of. According to researchers, many identical twins develop a deep, intuitive connection due to shared genetics, upbringing, and time spent together. While not all twins speak in sync, studies suggest that some do form their own private language called cryptophasia, especially in childhood. Research indicates that up to 40% of twin pairs create such private languages during early childhood. These languages typically consist of onomatopoeic expressions, invented words, and adaptations of adult language, shaped by the twins' shared experiences and interactions. However, while cryptophasia is relatively common in young twins, the persistence of synchronised speech into adulthood, as seen with the Powers twins, is notably rare. Most twins outgrow their private languages as they integrate more with the broader social environment and develop conventional language skills. So, are these twins taking us for a ride? Or do they simply just spend too much time together at this point?

He was coming back down toward us, he goes, 'run, he's got a gun,' and our heart started to pound,' they said at the same time. 'I said, 'Oh, Mum, where's Mum?' And poor Mum was stuck up there. But apparently our brave Mum, she goes, 'Are you alright?' Because he had blood all over his face. And he goes, 'I'll shoot you.' She goes, 'Hey, I'm here to help.'' According to the sisters, their mom distracted the suspect by making him look the other way before she ran into a bush behind a fence. Flames, smoke pour from massive fire at Richfield Township home 'The guy goes, 'I'll find you and I'll shoot you,'' the sisters told the interviewer. Originally appeared on E! Online You're not just seeing double—you're hearing it, too. After identical twin sisters Bridgette Powers and Paula Powers witnessed a carjack on Steve Irwin Way in Queensland, Australia, they were interviewed by 7News Queensland, a local station in the area. Just as unexpected as the incident was, they did not expect the interview to go viral. Journalist Marlina Woop kicked off the segment, introducing the interview with the Powers sisters, who detailed how their mother went face-to-face with the thief. Wearing identical shirts printed with bunnies, the two told their story in unison. 'One guy, he was up there with our mom. He went up there and he was coming back down toward us. And he goes, 'Run, he's got a gun!'' they shared simultaneously. 'Oh, our hearts started to pound. I said, 'Mom, where's mom?'' Well, according to the twins, their mother approached the carjacker, asking if he was alright after noticing blood on her face. However, after threatening to shoot her, she distracted the stranger and ran into the bushes, hiding from him. The twins shared how they were 'blessed' their mother was alright. More from E! Shortly after, the station posted the interview to X on April 21, and the clip went viral. In less than 24 hours, the video received over 1 million views. One user quipped in response, 'This is the kind of scene you couldn't script, characters you couldn't invent. Watch it immediately with the sound on. Australia can't be real.' In fact, they were interviewed by the Australian broadcasting network ABC News in 2021 about their conservation efforts and passion for animal care, explaining, 'We love all creatures great and small.' Acknowledging their habit to speak in unison, Bridgette and Paula added, 'Our brains must think alike at the same time.' They also addressed the reason why they dress identically, noting that they were not fans of dressing differently from one another. 'We did try once but we still got stared at,' they explained. 'So, what the heck. We might as well wear the same clothes again.' 'We just love one another to pieces,' they continued. 'We never get sick of one another.' Australian Twins Speak In Unison While Recalling Armed Carjacking, Go Viral

Two identical twin sisters from Queensland are going viral after recalling their frightening encounter with an alleged gunman, but it's not the story that's drawing attention. 'Twinnies' Bridgette and Paula Powers have made headlines on multiple occasions because of their striking resemblance and remarkable ability to finish each other's sentences. The 50-year-old Powers twins described how their mother was captured during an armed carjacking in Queensland, Australia, in an interview with 7News Queensland on Monday, April 21. The sisters described their escape from an unpredictable alleged vehicle thief who emerged with a gun from the wreckage of a rolled SUV. They added that the high-stress scenario that developed on Steve Irwin Way on the Sunshine Coast also involved their mother, Helen, and another man. Bridgette and Paula Powers, wearing identical bunny-covered shirts, spoke in sync and completed each other's sentences during the interview, which was uploaded to X. 'Mum distracted him to make him look the other way. And he looked the other way, and Mum ran into the bush behind the fence,' Bridgette and Paula added. The only difference between Bridgette and Paula's combined statement was when one of them said they 'ran for their life' and the other said they 'ran for their safety.' However, they declared themselves "blessed" because the carjacker spared their mother. Several online users, who may not be familiar with the environmentalist twins, have remarked on how their hand movements and speaking patterns mimic each other. One X user said, 'This is freaking amazing! I would love to see a brain wave study of what's going on in their respective auditory cortexes when they speak. A set of Australian twin sisters have proved than twin-telepathy is a thing after a viral interview where they recounted a carjacking to a local news station. The 51-year-old identical twins appeared on 7News Queensland on Monday to share their witness account of the SUV carjacking. Bridgette and Paula Powers donned matching blue tops which were adorned with bunny rabbits and also had their hair in matching ponytails. Twin sisters Bridgette and Paula Powers. Pic: 7NEWS Australia They revealed how their mother had tried to help a man who had blood all over his face only to be threatened by the gun-wielding man. Speaking almost entirely in-sync, the sisters detailed how they had been cleaning when they heard a big bang and thought 'another car accident.' They said, in unison, that they dropped everything and 'went running out of the front.' Recalling the story, the sisters even gasped at the exact same time as they explained how a man had told them, 'Run, he's got a gun.' Parts of the interview saw one twin take the lead, with the other joining in for the end of the sentences and vice versa. The three-minute interview with the twins has gone viral, with many ranking it amongst the best interviews of all time. Twin sisters Bridgette and Paula Powers appearing on Good Morning Britain in 2016. Pic: ITV Speaking following the viral interview, the women told SBS News that they have tried to speak separately but can't. They said: 'We don't know how it happens. Some people say, 'Do you rehearse a conversation?' and we said: 'No, how can you rehearse a conversation?' The sisters have run the Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue in Landsborough for the past 25 years, where they work to rehabilitate pelicans and seabirds who have been injured. It's not the first time the sisters have gone viral with the twins frequently appearing on Australian TV. Eight years ago, the sisters appeared on Good Morning Britain with then-presenter Piers Morgan immediately unable to control his laughter, particularly when the sisters chuckled alongside him. 'This is like Star Trek!' Piers exclaimed. 'Sorry, how can you keep a straight face?' the presenter asked co-host Susanna Reid, 'That's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.'
