Do ya think he's pacey? Rod Stewart has over-80s sprint record in his sights
Sprinters tend to reach their prime in their mid-twenties, when they have just the right combination of speed, strength and experience.
Not many are trying to break world records after they reach their eighties.
This has not stopped Sir Rod Stewart from setting his sights on running 100 metres in less than 14 seconds, the record time for men aged 80-plus.
Since celebrating his 80th birthday in January, the rock star said he has thrown himself into an intense training regime. Having had a sprint track installed in the grounds of his grade II-listed mansion in Essex, he has already started to shave time off his personal best (PB).
'I can do it in 19 seconds and the record for an 80-year-old is 14 seconds. I'll never get it to that. But I'm trying,' he told the Radio Times.
