Advertisement The 49ers quarterback was asked what he thought was the more nerve-wracking situation: avoiding a linebacker or going on stage with American country music singer Luke Combs. 'I'd say being on stage with Luke Combs,' Purdy laughingly said Thursday on 95.7 The Game's 'Willard & Dibs.' 'Man, George [Kittle] and I were up there, and we couldn't hear a thing. I was like, 'How do they go up there and sing? And everyone's singing with you.' So, I was starstruck up there. So definitely that [is more stressful]. Last May, Purdy and some of his teammates appeared on stage at the sold-out show at Levi's Stadium to rock out with one of country music's biggest stars. Given the massive stadium show and the loud crowd, it's no surprise that the San Francisco signal-caller couldn't hear anything, let alone start belting out a song. Brock Purdy said in January he wanted his contract extension completed by the start of the offseason program. It wasn't. Purdy signed his five-year, $265 million deal a month into the workouts. He told 95.7 The Game he never considered not participating in the voluntary work in absence of an extension. Advertisement "I think, for me, being here and getting better at football, I don't think that [missing time] was ever going to be a question for me," Purdy told the Bay Area radio station, via David Bonilla of "I wanted to be here, and continue to build off of what we've done the last couple of years, and not let the negotiations and the money get in the way of that. "I had faith that that was going to get done when it needed to, and obviously, I wouldn't have liked that to go right up until the season." In recent years, the 49ers completed deals with edge rusher Nick Bosa, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and left tackle Trent Williams shortly before Week 1. "That would have probably been a little bit more stressful and whatnot," Purdy said. "But coming here early in the offseason program, and getting around the guys, and getting on the field, and throwing, getting the timing down, getting to know guys, that is some crucial stuff for how the season turns out to be. "So, I knew from the get-go, whether the contract was done or not, that I was going to be here." The 49ers begin Organized Team Activities next week.

Despite Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski's historically poor shooting performance of 9-for-40 from the floor through four games of the Western Conference semifinals, the 22-year-old is receiving considerable praise. Advertisement Coach Steve Kerr discussed Tuesday on 95.7 The Game's 'Willard and Dibs' why Podziemski remains valuable to his strategy, even while experiencing a shooting slump, ahead of the must-win Game 5 against the Timberwolves on Wednesday in Minnesota. 'The confidence in the shot right now is not there, but let me tell you something: This guy is a ball player,' Kerr told Mark Willard and Dan Dibley. 'Every game, you look at the plus/minus at the end of the game, and he's at or near the top for our team. He does so many other things besides shooting that are crucial for us.' Without star guard Steph Curry on the court, the Warriors desperately have been searching for answers, finding a positive response from forward Jonathan Kuminga but not from Podziemski. Advertisement The second-year guard has posted the worst field goal percentage in a four-game playoff series (second round or later) in the last 50 years. Even then, Kerr is determined to hand Podziemski a pivotal role on Wednesday as Golden State looks to overturn a 3-1 series deficit. 'He's still going to be out there,' Kerr added. 'That's why I play as much as I am, despite his shooting struggles. 'He's a crucial player for us, so these are great experiences for him to go through and to learn from. I'm confident in his ability to get past this shooting funk and have a big game tomorrow because he has a lot of confidence in himself.' Advertisement But what exactly is it about Podziemski's game that has won over Kerr? 'He reads the game. He handles the ball. He passes. He's a great rebounder. He sees things defensively, so he's always in the right spot,' Kerr concluded. 'The game just connects when he's out there. It just makes a lot of sense for the group, and that doesn't mean he's perfect, but he does a lot things that just makes the game make sense. And not every player does that, frankly. 'Brandin, despite his shooting struggles, continues to connect lineups and make good basketball players. Those are the things that help you win.'
