Conan O'Brien Is Set to Return As Host For the Oscars in 2026

In an exciting announcement, comedian and late-night television legend Conan O'Brien is set to return as the host of the Academy Awards in 2026. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed on Monday that O'Brien will once again emcee Hollywood's biggest night, marking his second time as host for the prestigious event. O'Brien, who previously hosted the 2025 Oscars, left a lasting impression on audiences. His performance during the 95th Academy Awards telecast was widely praised, bringing in a whopping 19.7 million U.S. viewers—making it the highest-rated Oscars telecast in five years, according to broadcaster ABC. His sharp wit, comedic timing, and ability to keep the audience engaged earned him widespread acclaim, with many calling it one of the best Oscar hosting performances in recent memory. In a statement from the Academy, O'Brien joked, "The only reason I'm hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech," referencing the lengthy acceptance speech (a whopping 5 minutes and 36 seconds) given by Brody when he won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Brutalist. His humor was a key part of his hosting style at the 2025 Oscars, blending sharp, self-deprecating jokes with moments of heart and genuine enthusiasm for the films and stars being celebrated. It's no surprise the Academy invited him back for another turn at the helm. "I'm excited to have his talents back onstage next year to helm another indelible performance," said Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group. Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, who served as executive producers for the 2025 Oscars, will also return for a third consecutive year in the same roles. Their expertise, along with O'Brien's unmatched charisma, promises to make the 98th Academy Awards, set for March 15, 2026, another memorable night in the annals of Hollywood history. Fans are undoubtedly eager for his return in 2026, as the Academy looks to continue the success of its recent Oscar ceremonies.

2025 Oscars: How to watch or stream the Academy Awards in the US

The biggest night in film, the 95th Academy Awards, is happening this Sunday, and with it the ultimate prizes the industry can bestow on its peers. Here's what to know about the Oscars and how to watch it live. The 97th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday 2 March. The awards start at 7pm ET (4pm PST), or midnight in the UK and 11am in Sydney, Australia. The event will be broadcast live on ABC and streaming on Hulu. Cable subscribers can also access the show online at and in the ABC app. Here's how to watch outside the US. To catch A-list celebrities and their outfits, viewers can tune in to the red-carpet shows starting at 3.30pm ET on ABC and Hulu. Julianne Hough and Jesse Palmer, hosts of Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor, will helm live coverage from the red carpet. Conan O'Brien, the former late-night host and comedian, will be taking charge of this Sunday's Oscars. He's taking over from Jimmy Kimmel, who has hosted the ceremony four times since 2017. Asked why he decided to accept the hosting gig, Conan, after joking about the appeal of the gig's paycheck, explained that the 'the Oscars has meaning'. 'Really good cinema – especially when it's from different countries, different points of view – has an incredible amount of resonance and importance right now, and this is the night that celebrates that. To be a part of it is meaningful to me,' he told the New York Times. In light of the devastating California wildfires, the marketing company behind the goody bags handed out at Oscars has tweaked its offerings, with key inclusions reflecting the disaster. The bag includes more than $1m worth of personalised disaster recovery services, the offer of complimentary home renovation project management and cannabis products, among other treats. The ceremony will not feature the traditional performances of the best song nominees. Instead, the lineup of performers will include Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Queen Latifah, Doja Cat, Lisa of Blackpink and Raye. Emilia Pérez received 13 nominations at this year's Oscars – the most of any film and a record for the most nominations ever earned by a non-English-language film. The films' nominations put it ahead of both Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2001 and Roma in 2018, both of which garnered 10 nods. Just behind Emilia Pérez in total nominations are The Brutalist and Wicked, which both secured 10 nominations including in the biggest category of the night.
