Deja Kelly addresses getting waived by Aces in emotional interview

Deja Kelly addresses getting waived by Aces in emotional interview WNBA free agent Deja Kelly cried after being waived by the Las Vegas Aces but it's not for the reason you think. Ahead of the WNBA draft, For The Win sat down with Kelly as she talked about what she might face by joining the WNBA. "Once you get to the league, it's like, you're quick. You're on a team. You need to figure it out. You have a very short amount of time," Kelly said. The former Oregon Duck was right. After going undrafted, Kelly was picked up by Las Vegas on April 18 and less than a month later she was waived, despite having an overall solid WNBA debut. The young guard recently reflected on her stint with the Aces (including a game-winner against the Phoenix Mercury during A'ja Wilson's A'One Night) during an emotional interview. As she was describing what it meant to her, she held back tears. However, it seemingly wasn't because she was hurt by the move. "I think, first, for me, it just felt like a sense of gratitude," Kelly told Ros Gold-Onwude of the Good Follow. "Attitude of gratitude. Just being able to be on that court in that moment." Here's more from Kelly's interview: "That was one of the best moments of my basketball career, really. And again, for that to be how my W career starts was a such a blessing ... It was just a sense of happiness ― a sense of joy with that team.""It was an opportunity that I'll forever be greatful to that organization for ... You know, just playing with an extra chip on my shoulder. That was my main thing. Just post-draft, that's what I gotta do. Gotta continue to really not prove anyone else wrong, but prove myself right. I know I belong. I know this is where I'm supposed to be." What an intro to the WNBA for Deja Kelly.

LV Aces Release Two of A'ja Wilson's Teammates on Wednesday

The Las Vegas Aces have released two players from their training camp roster, bringing their total down to 14 as they prepare for the 2025 WNBA season. Rookie guard Harmoni Turner and veteran center Queen Egbo were waived on Wednesday, the team confirmed on X. Advertisement The Aces selected Turner in the third round of the 2025 WNBA Draft after a standout career at Harvard. She averaged 18.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in college, earning a reputation as a reliable scorer and playmaker. In her preseason debut with the Aces, Turner played 11 minutes against the Phoenix Mercury, scoring four points and grabbing a rebound and a steal. Despite showing potential, Turner did not make the final roster cut. With limited roster space and fierce competition, the Aces chose to move in a different direction. Also released was 24-year-old Queen Egbo, a center who entered the league as the 10th overall pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft. Egbo joined the Aces late last season and appeared in just four games. She signed a training camp deal in February but played only seven minutes across two preseason games, recording four rebounds, two assists and two steals without scoring. Advertisement Egbo's journey in the WNBA has seen her wear several jerseys. She has played for the Indiana Fever, Washington Mystics, Connecticut Sun and Los Angeles Sparks. WNBA teams are required to finalize their rosters to a maximum of 12 players by May 15. The Aces still have 14 players in camp, which means at least two more cuts are expected in the coming days. A'ja Wilson lays it up against Breanna Stewart at Barclays Cruz-Imagn Images The team's current roster includes six players on protected contracts, including WNBA superstar A'ja Aces celebrated Wilson with a special "A'One Night" event honoring the release of her new Nike signature sneaker, which sold out in under five minutes. The Aces held 'A'One Night' for A'ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo pulled up

The Aces held 'A'One Night' for A'ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo pulled up A'ja Wilson's favorite Olympian from out of town pulled up to Las Vegas to celebrate the launch of the A'One. The Aces center's signature shoes officially launched Tuesday, and to recognize the momentous occasion, Las Vegas held a themed night for fans to celebrate with Wilson and encouraged them to wear their A'Ones. However, fans weren't the only ones who pulled up to the Michaelob Ultra Arena in Wilson's unmistakable pink kicks. Several of Wilson's teammates wore their A'Ones she recently gifted them, and even her former college coach, Dawn Staley, made an appearance rocking a sweet soon-to-be-released blue colorway. A'ONE SHOES: Q&A ― A'ja Wilson's advice for Paige Bueckers and how having her own sneakers is 'surreal' No celebration would be complete without an appearance from Wilson's beau, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo. You just knew Adebayo wasn't missing such a big night. Cameras caught him sitting courtside, cool as ever, rocking his pair of A'One's, which he jokingly said he didn't have hours before. We can't wait to see Adebayo wearing more A'Ones (perhaps the blue version with the Heat's "Miami Vice" uniform?) very soon.
