Roadworks on Southampton's Redbridge flyover cause major delays
Drivers faced "horrendous" queues of up to two hours as roadworks got underway on a major eastbound carriageway of the A35 Redbridge flyover into Southampton from Totton has been closed to allow Southern Water to find and fix a roadworks had been due to get underway 24 hours earlier but were cancelled without warning due to an "operational issue".Southern Water apologised for the disruption but says the road will remain closed for a number of days. The closure of one of the main routes into the city has led to frustration and long delays for local residents and Williams, from Ashurst, set off early but sat in traffic for more than 50 minutes: "I'm thinking about ditching the cars somewhere on the way and walking the rest of the way but got to find somewhere first."Further back, Melanie Thomas, from Totton, had travelled less than 1.6km (1 mile) in an hour but was more understanding about the roadworks: "It has to be done but could have been done better, much better organised." Meanwhile, Karen Parsons, who had moved 800m (0.5 miles) in half an hour, described the delays as "horrendous". "Last minute change by Southern Water not to do it yesterday and change all the arrangements very late in the day kind of makes it inevitable not to avoid it really. "Not looking good for a start to work," she West admitted his morning could have been better. He said his usual one minute journey had taken 50 minutes and counting: "Busy enough as it is with the school runs, trying to get to work. I knew it would be bad but not quite this bad."Southern Water says it is trying to pinpoint the exact location of the leak.A spokesperson said: "Due to the nature of the work the eastbound carriageway will remain closed for a number of days - with the closure being 24/7 to allow our teams to work."We will provide a further update on progress on Wednesday morning. We're sorry for the disruption this work is causing." You can follow BBC Hampshire & Isle of Wight on Facebook, X, or Instagram.

Depardieu faces judgment day in sexual assault trial
A court in Paris is due to hand down its verdict in the sexual assault trial of French actor Gerard Depardieu, in one of the highest-profile #MeToo cases to come before judges in France. The court will rule on Tuesday over accusations that Depardieu sexually assaulted two women on a film set in 2021. A towering figure of French cinema, Depardieu repeatedly denied any wrongdoing during the trial and his lawyer pleaded for charges against him to be dismissed. The public prosecutor has asked the court to hand 76-year-old Depardieu a suspended 18-month prison sentence and a 20,000-euro ($A35,000) fine. The #MeToo protest movement over sexual violence has struggled to gain the same traction in France as in the United States, though there are signs that social attitudes towards sexual assault might be changing. One of the two plaintiffs, Amelie K, a set decorator, told the court the actor had groped her all over her body as he trapped her between his legs and made explicit sexual comments. "He touched everything, including my breasts," she told the court. "I was terrified, he was laughing." The second plaintiff said she was groped by Depardieu on set and in the street. The alleged assaults occurred during the filming of Les Volets Verts (The Green Shutters) in 2021, while Depardieu was under formal investigation over accusations of raping a young actress in 2018. Prosecutors have requested that case go to trial, too. Depardieu told the court that he did not consider placing a hand on a person's buttocks sexual assault and that some women were too easily shocked. He denied assault. Depardieu has faced a growing number of sexual assault allegations in recent years, which has put a spotlight on how women are treated in the movie industry. His trial has laid bare a generational divide in France over sexism, with some prominent older actresses defending him. Brigitte Bardot, 90, told broadcaster BFM TV on Monday that "those who have talent and grope a girl get thrown into the gutter". 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) National Sexual Abuse and Redress Support Service 1800 211 028

Richard Hammond's Daughter Dents Her First Performance Car Immediately
Read the full story on Backfire News When you're the daughter of a famous automotive show host, you can't just buy any old ride. That's why Izzy, Richard Hammond's child, opted for a new Mercedes-AMG A35. Before you snort about how the little hatchback must be the perfect choice for a kid, just know this thing is notorious for kicking like a right, the A35 might have a little four-banger engine, but thanks to turbocharging and AMG wizardry, it pulses with a mighty 302-horsepower plus 295 lb.-ft. of torque on tap. That's plenty to get it moving at a neck-snapping pace. In other words, we can't really blame Izzy. After all, who in their right mind allows their child to buy such a beast? She showed off her newly acquired ride for a DriveTribe video, explaining why she chose it over a BMW M2. While you might not agree with her reasoning, she did some real thinking and tried out both cars before settling on the Mercedes. While taking the A35 through some tight turns on a rural UK road, she hugged the shoulder a little too tightly as a fender-mounted camera hit a clump of grass, pushing it to a weird angle. She laughs it off and so does the guy riding shotgun. However, when they arrive back to where the film crew is staged and they remove the GoPro's suction mount, they discover a small dent in the sheet metal. So in perhaps the weirdest, most unexpected way she already damaged her new ride. Of course, Richard Hammond was famous on Top Gear for wrecking cars. He even had a brush with death while testing out the Rimac Concept One all-electric hypercar, the $1 million EV going up in flames afterward. Before the incident, Izzy disclosed not only does she want to wrap the A35, she wants to dial up performance so the little 2.0-liter engine is making 500-hp. That's insane, but she is after all a chip off the old block. Images via DriveTribe/YouTube
