WWE Spoils Upcoming Title Match Involving Alberto Del Rio
Spoiler alert — Alberto Del Rio might not be the AAA Mega Champion much longer. On June 7, WWE will host Worlds Collide, with talents from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and AAA competing. One of the cross-promotional matches will pit WWE Raw star Chad Gable against AAA's El Hijo Del Vikingo. Advertisement Per an advertisement on this week's episode of Raw, this match will be for the AAA Mega Championship. The problem? Neither Vikingo nor Gable currently holds the AAA Mega Championship. That distinction currently belongs to Alberto El Patron, who WWE fans formerly know as Alberto Del Rio. Last August, Alberto defeated Nic Nemeth to claim the title. Looking ahead, he is slated to defend it against Vikingo at AAA's May 31 show in Mexico. Given the fact that WWE is now promoting Vikingo vs. Gable for the Mega Championship, it seems that they also spoiled the finish to Vikingo vs. Alberto, with the challenger soon becoming the new champion. Vikingo and Gable crossed paths on Raw this week, beginning with the latter landing a cheap shot on the former, who was sitting at ringside. Vikingo later turned the tables during Gable's Money in the Bank qualifier by nailing him with a kick as Gable stood atop the turnbuckle. Advertisement This move allowed Dragon Lee to connect a stomp to Gable. Penta then capitalized with a Mexican Destroyer to Lee and a Penta Driver on Gable for the win. Last month, WWE announced that it had acquired AAA. Vikingo was one of the many talents present at the time of the groundbreaking announcement. WWE accidentally reveals the result of Vikingo's AAA Mega Championship bout ahead of Worlds Collide?
WWE might have accidentally revealed the result of an important title match coming up in Mexico. During the May 26 episode of Raw, a match graphic for the Worlds Collide event showed Chad Gable vs El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship. The problem? Vikingo isn't the champion yet. The current AAA Mega Champion is Alberto El Patron, also known as Alberto Del Rio. He's supposed to defend the title against Vikingo on May 31. But with WWE already promoting the Gable vs Vikingo bout as a title match, it seems like they've quietly spoiled the May 31 result. Unless something changes, it looks like Vikingo will beat El Patron and walk into Worlds Collide as the new champion. Some fans had already guessed this might happen. Even though El Patron has returned to AAA, he hasn't been part of any WWE programming. Vikingo, on the other hand, has made recent appearances and is seen as one of the key figures in this WWE x AAA partnership. So the idea of him winning the title and defending it on WWE turf makes sense. Still, revealing it early like this? That's not the smoothest move. WWE and Alberto Del Rio: A rocky past WWE likely never planned to include El Patron in any crossover content. Their relationship with him has been difficult over the years. He was once a top name in the company, even winning the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles. But since his release in 2016, he's had multiple controversies, legal troubles, and public fallouts with the company. WWE advertised El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Chad Gable at Worlds Collide as being for the AAA Mega Championship 👀Vikingo will challenge Alberto El Patron for the title on May 31.#WWERaw While he's resurfaced in AAA, WWE has kept their distance. Reports say the company doesn't want to associate with him on screen, which could be why they're ready to move the belt onto someone like Vikingo. The title match on May 31 was probably meant to be a stepping stone, not a main feature. Now, thanks to a simple graphic on Raw, fans know what's likely coming. Not the biggest mistake WWE has made but not ideal either.

WWE Hints At Return of Former WWE World Champion
Right before SmackDown Friday, multiple outlets reported WWE was releasing or failing to renew the contracts of various superstars. The company prioritized continuing to churn out record profits in exchange for losing talented depth across its roster. There is no off-season in the world of pro wrestling, and it's a business that always moves forward, which doesn't stop the rampant rumors of additions to take those vacant slots. The promotion is leaning into this mentality, even perhaps teasing the prospect of bringing back a former WWE World Champion for another run. Triple HGetty Images Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Alberto Del Rio is back in the WWE Alumni's section on its website. Del Rio, currently wrestling under the last name El Patron, is the reigning AAA Mega Champion. WWE announced its acquisition of AAA over WrestleMania weekend, which sparked the Del Rio return rumors. According to a previous Fightful Select report, WWE and Del Rio had no mutual interest in working with one another. Those close to the 47-year-old claim that mentality has shifted, and the relationship between the sides is no longer "contentious." Advertisement Del Rio has been previously convicted of multiple felonies and has made headlines for numerous offhand remarks. TNA also released him in 2018 for not showing up to an event. Due to his advanced age, it's hard to see where Del Rio could fit into the current landscape. He was always able to create authentic heel heat and was fine between the ropes, but he struggled to connect with the fans in the long term. Hall of Famer JBL recently called Del Rio the best ring general "in the world" for his work in Mexico. Del Rio has a realistic chance to reappear on WWE programming as soon as June 7th at the World Collide event. Related: Cody Rhodes Return Timeline Revealed?
