Bishop McCort wrestling finishes as runner up in State Tournament
ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The PIAA team wrestling championship in AA featured the top two ranked teams in the country as No. 2 Bishop McCort squared off with No. 1 Faith Christian at Altoona high school.
The Lions came out fast and won the first two matches by pinfall to take a 12-0 lead. At 127 pounds Jax Forest responded for the Crushers by pinning Henry Racich in 25 seconds to cut the deficit to 12-6.
Faith Christian won the next two matches to extend its lead to 19-6, however Bishop McCort's Sam Herring stopped the bleeding at 145 pounds after defeating Shane Wagner, which then set the stage for Bo Bassett at 152 pounds. Basset defeated Max Stein in a major decision.
The Crushers would win the next two matches and after Melvin Miller defeated Nick Singer at 172 pounds the match was tied 19-19. The Lions however would win the next three matches and that was all they would need to win the AA State Championship 34-25 over Bishop McCort.
