At least one person was believed dead, said one of the officials. Authorities have not disclosed a motive. The city of Palm Springs said Saturday in a social medial post that the explosion happened at 11 a.m. local time and that residents were being asked to avoid the area around North Indian Canyon Drive near East Tachevah Drive. Investigators from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on their way to the scene to help assess what happened. Dr. Maher Abdallah, who runs the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic, confirmed that his clinic was damaged. He told The Associated Press in a phone interview that all of his staff were safe and accounted for. Your noon-hour look at what's happening in Toronto and beyond. The explosion damaged the practice's office space, where it conducts consultations with patients, but left the IVF lab and all of the stored embryos there unharmed. 'I really have no clue what happened,' Abdallah said. 'Thank God today happened to be a day that we have no patients.' Aerial footage showed a burned-out car in a parking lot behind the building that housed the fertility clinic's office space. The blast caved in the building's roof and blew a wide debris field across a sidewalk and four lanes of the street on the other side of the structure. Rhino Williams, 47, was chatting with customers at a restaurant he helps manage inside the Skylark Hotel just over a block away from the scene when he heard a huge boom. Everything rattled, he said, and Williams — who has a background in aviation _ immediately sprinted to the scene to see if anyone was in need of help, thinking a helicopter might have crashed. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Williams saw a large dark gray plume of smoke and covered his nose with his shirt as he smelled burning plastic and rubber. He said he saw a building had 'blown out' into the street, with bricks scattered everywhere, and spotted a car's axle on fire in the building's parking lot. He said it was the only car in the lot that he saw. He ran into the building, calling out and peering behind the counter to see if anyone was inside. He did not hear a response and did not see anyone behind the counter. Williams said he ran around to check on other nearby buildings. Multiple windows of the neighboring liquor store were also blown out, he said. Once he saw authorities arrive, he headed back to the hotel. Nima Tabrizi, 37, of Santa Monica, said he was inside a cannabis dispensary nearby when he felt a massive explosion. 'The building just shook, and we go outside and there's massive cloud smoke,' Tabrizi said. 'Crazy explosion. It felt like a bomb went off. … We went up to the scene, and we saw human remains.' You'll soon be able to stroll 3rd Street Promenade this summer with a cocktail in your hand
If you haven't been to the Third Street Promenade lately, we don't blame you. Santa Monica's outdoor shopping district has struggled in recent years to attract locals amid empty storefronts and increased public safety concerns due to the sizable increase in the area's homeless population. While the area still sees heavy tourist traffic in the summer and on the weekends, even newer restaurant openings like an oceanfront Din Tai Fung have largely failed to lure back the Promenade's pre-pandemic crowds. Now, Santa Monica will be turning the entire three-block area into an open container zone sometime in June—which means you'll be able to walk and drink freely along the Promenade from approved to-go containers between 8am and 2am. ABC 7 Los Angeles reports that the zone's borders will be between Wilshire Boulevard and Broadway. Last night, the city council voted unanimously to approve the ordinance in a likely bid to change the fate of the struggling commercial district. The move seems to dovetails perfectly with the newest occupants of the Promenade, which has seen the departure of major retailers. These days, area landlords are experimenting with ' experiential retail,' according to the Los Angeles Times, which includes pickleball and boozy art classes. Last fall, the area saw the opening of Holey Moley, a mini golf club that sells booze and offers Instagrammable courses. Apparently, per the Times, people are also live-selling on TikTok on the Promenade. The new 'Outdoor Entertainment Zone' wasn't created without guard rails, however. Businesses offering to-go alcoholic drinks must check IDs and provide customers with official wristbands, which they need to wear while they drink and walk around outdoors. The city of Santa Monica plans to monitor the program and will conduct a review after six months, with results available to the public.

Oahu road rage suspect on parole for similar Los Angeles attacks
A 38-year-old man sentenced to five years in prison in 2023 for a series of road rage assaults in Southern California was arrested Thursday in Waikiki on suspicion of misdemeanor assault and breaking into a car after he allegedly attacked a woman and her mom in another road rage incident. Honolulu police arrested Nathaniel Walters Radimak at 4 :40 p.m. at 2121 Ala Wai Boulevard on suspicion of third-degree assault, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and contempt of court. Radimak was sentenced in September 2023 and paroled in Los Angeles County on Aug. 28. He had an outstanding traffic warrant in Hawaii after he was cited Jan. 18, 2023, for driving without a valid drivers license and speeding more than 30 miles over the posted limit. According to the Honolulu Police Department, just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, an 18-year-old woman was parking her car on Halekauwila Street in Kakaako with her 35-year-old mother. She saw a gray Tesla speeding past and exchanged words with the man driving it. Police said the man stopped, got out of the Tesla and allegedly assaulted both the young woman and her mother, then fled. Radimak was released from prison in August after serving less than a year of his sentence for a series of road-rage attacks in Southern California that 'traumatized his victims, ' according to ABC7 Los Angeles. He was known for 'driving a Tesla and using a metal pipe to bash his victims' cars ' and several of the attacks were captured on video, the station reported. Radimak allegedly attacked about a dozen drivers, mostly women, throughout Los Angeles County between 2022 and 2023. In September 2023, he was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to assault, vandalism, elder abuse, and criminal threats. 48 Comments By participating in online discussions you acknowledge that you have agreed to the.
