The top-seeded FSU softball team is set to play the Clemson Tigers in the championship game of the ACC Softball Championship Saturday at the Harrington Athletics Village in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
The Seminoles held on to beat the Duke Blue Devils in the semifinal, winning 3-2 on Friday. They are now 46-9 on the season and have won 35 of their last 40 games. Duke scored one run in the seventh inning and had the tying run at third when Ashtyn Dnaley got the final out.
It was another excellent outing from FSU's pitching staff as Julia Apsel, Jazzy Francik, and Danley held the potent Duke lineup to six hits and two unearned runs. The pitching staff has allowed just two unearned runs in their two tournament games.
Clemson (43-12) is the No. 2 seed in the tournament and beat the No. 3-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies 10-9 on Friday to clinch its spot in the final. The Tigers have won six straight games and 14 of their last 16.
FSU leads the all-time series 7-0 and has outscored the Tigers 40-19. Their most recent meeting was in 2023 when the Seminoles swept them in Clemson. This is their second time playing the championship game, the Seminoles beat them 8-6 to win the 2022 ACC Tournament Championship.
The Tigers are looking for their first conference tournament championship, while the Seminoles are looking for their 20th. FSU has won eight of the past 10 and has won it every time they have won the regular season championship.
