Dubai International Chamber has opened a new representative office in Cape Town, marking a strategic step to deepen economic ties between Dubai and South Africa. The move comes under the umbrella of the Dubai Global initiative and aims to accelerate bilateral trade and investment flows between the two regions. The launch was formalised during a ceremony held at Dubai Chambers' headquarters and attended by Alan Winde, Premier of South Africa's Western Cape Province, alongside a delegation of senior officials. The visit focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, tourism, and investment. Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, described South Africa as a vital partner with strong growth potential. Dubai International Chamber establishes new representative office in Cape Town
Dubai International Chamber, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, has announced the launch of a new representative office in Cape Town to strengthen the ties between the business communities in Dubai and South Africa. Launched as part of the 'Dubai Global' initiative, the office is dedicated to enhancing economic relations between the two markets and will support the growth of bilateral trade and investments. The office was officially inaugurated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Dubai Chambers' headquarters in the presence of Alan Winde, Premier of the Western Cape Province in South Africa. Winde was leading a high-level delegation of senior officials to discuss business opportunities and formalise relations between Dubai Chambers and the Western Cape Government. The two sides met to discuss opportunities to enhance trade, tourism, and investments between Dubai and the Western Cape. Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, commented, 'South Africa is a strategic economic partner for Dubai and holds vast potential for expanding trade and investments. The launch of our new office in Cape Town reflects our commitment to deepening economic cooperation with the region and supporting South African companies in leveraging Dubai as a gateway to global markets. We look forward to fostering new partnerships that contribute to mutual growth and prosperity.' Alan Winde, Premier of the Western Cape Province in South Africa, said, 'The Western Cape Government warmly welcomes Dubai International Chamber's move to set up its new office in Cape Town. To grow our economy and create many more jobs, we must strengthen international partnerships and drive opportunities for our international partners to invest here and grow our economy. Our province has much to offer, and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership between our regions.' The launch of the new office comes during a time of expanding trade between Dubai and South Africa. Last year, non-oil bilateral trade between the two markets reached a value of around AED29 billion, representing annual growth of 20%. The growing interest in doing business in Dubai among South African companies is also reflected in the number of active members of Dubai Chamber of Commerce from the country, which increased by 23.8% last year to reach 775 by the end of 2024. A further 51 new companies joined the chamber during Q1 2025 alone, signalling continued strong momentum.

Careem launches budget-friendly ‘Meals:On' in Abu Dhabi
Dubai super app Careem announced the launch of 'Meals:On' in Abu Dhabi – a new food feature designed to simplify solo food orders and make high-quality meal deals more affordable for customers ordering alone. Ordering a solo meal often feels expensive, with a lack of reasonably priced meal bundles. 'Meals:On' addresses this by offering a curated selection of complete, high-quality meal deals from top local and international restaurants, all priced under AED29. Most meals include a main dish, side salad, and drink and can be found in a dedicated section on Careem Food for easy one-tap ordering, the company said. Jaskaran Singh, VP of Careem Food, said the purpose is to simplify life in the region, and with this launch the company is doing just that for solo diners. 'Whether it's lunch during a busy workday or a quick dinner after hours, customers often feel overwhelmed by the choices and feel like they're paying too much for each meal. Meals:On eliminates that friction by making high-quality, affordable meals available with minimal effort,' he said. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Careem UAE (@careemuae) Imad El Fay, VP of Growth at Kitopi, said the firm is excited to partner with Careem on the launch of 'Meals:On' to make it easier and more affordable for customers to enjoy great food, especially when ordering for one person. Meals:On boasts a number of popular Abu Dhabi restaurants, including Wagamama, Wingstop, Just Burger, Zaatar w Zeit, Barbar, Papa Johns, Right Bite, Sushi Do, Costa and Allo Beirut. Careem Plus members also enjoy free delivery on Meals:On orders, even if the order value is below AED30 – a benefit designed specifically for solo meal purchases, the company said. The company's data indicates that over 64 per cent of Careem Food customers in the UAE typically order for one during lunch hours. 'Meals:On' is meant to cater to that majority, drawing inspiration from Munch:On, the solo-meal platform Careem acquired in 2022, the company said.
