Charts show Spain faces 35°C heatwave that could last for days New weather maps show chances of a 35°C heatwave hitting Spain in time for May half-term The hot weather is predicted to take hold from May 27 (Image: (Image: WXCharts) ) British holidaymakers heading to Spain for May half-term could be in for a scorcher, with temperatures predicted to soar to 35°C. WXCharts' latest forecast shows a heatwave hitting parts of southern Spain from Tuesday, May 27 . The forecast indicates that the temperature will start to rise around 6pm on May 27, shooting up to 34°C in areas around Seville and the port city of Huelva. The mercury is then set to steadily increase to 35°C in the southwest, with nearly half of the country experiencing highs of over 30°C by the evening of May 28. It comes after predictions of wet and stormy weather across Spain in the coming days, potentially causing disruption for Brits hoping to beat the half-term rush in popular seaside destinations like the Costa del Sol. The temperature will settle around 35°C by the mid-week (Image: (Image: WXCharts) ) "Increased instability is expected across the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands due to the approach of a low-pressure system from the northwest," warned AE Met. Article continues below Between May 13 and May 15, it warned of "possible showers with strong thunderstorms and hail in large areas of the central and eastern peninsula and Majorca" could strike. According to travel agency TUI, inconsistent weather patterns, similar to those recently experienced by the UK, are not unusual for Spain at this time of year. This is despite the first four months of 2025 being the wettest on record. Brits going to Spain for half-term holidays should expect hot weather (Image: (Image: WXCharts) ) Article continues below Spain's spring, which saw a record-breaking 22 days of rainfall in March, typically features "pleasant weather with mild temperatures, low rainfall, abundant sunshine and moderate humidity". Showers are usually "sporadic, brief and scattered", suggested TUI. This is in a stark contrast to the persistent wet weather recorded so far this year, which followed just months after over 200 people perished in the country's deadliest floods in decades last October.

Met Office issues warning to Brits as 'snow' and 'heavy rain' set to hit Spain
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info British sun-seekers may face holiday havoc this week as Spain braces for a relentless downpour. The Spanish national weather service, Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AE Met), has forecasted a dismal outlook for the Iberian Peninsula with potential rain disruptions continuing until at least Thursday, May 15. Families looking forward to soaking up the Mediterranean sun might be greeted by gloomy skies and rain across the central regions, including the bustling city of Madrid. Additionally, coastal regions favoured by Brits like Costa del Sol and Barcelona may also experience showers. AE Met's Wednesday bulletin surprisingly suggested that "snow" could fall on the Balearic Islands, too. (Image: (Image: Agencia Estatal de Meteorología )) (Image: (Image: Getty )) Their statement revealed: "Unstable conditions will persist across the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands under the influence of a mature low-pressure system located northwest of the peninsula and the deepening of a low-pressure system over North Africa." Consequently, holidaymakers can expect predominantly cloudy or overcast conditions with widespread precipitation. While the southwest might escape slightly, heavy downpours are anticipated across the afternoon hours, particularly in the central plateau, adjoining mountain ranges, the Pyrenees, inland Catalonia, and the southeast, reports the Express. The Balearic Islands, a hotspot for British tourists seeking beach retreats in places like Ibiza and Majorca, have even been warned of potential snowfall amidst the tumultuous weather forecasted for Thursday, May 15th, with AE Met confirming that "unstable conditions will persist". It was reported: "Cloudy or overcast skies will predominate, with almost widespread rainfall, although unlikely in the southwest. "More intense, abundant, and stormy rainfall is expected during the afternoon, when it could be locally heavy in areas of the eastern half and mountains of the Iberian Peninsula. "However, high pressure will remain in the Canary Islands, with cloudy periods and the possibility of some light precipitation in the north of the islands, and partly cloudy skies in the south." In the beloved film My Fair Lady, starring silver screen icons Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, Hepburn captivates audiences as Eliza Doolittle, a humble Cockney flower-seller. Engaging in a wager with Henry Higgins, a professor of phonetics portrayed by Harrison, she undergoes a transformation to speak just as posh as a duchess. "The Rain in Spain" resonates as a memorable tune from the original 1956 musical, featuring prominently in the film as one of the pivotal moments in Doolittle's elocution lessons under the tutelage of professor Higgins.
