Gas project provides 13,480 PNG connections across Thiruvananthapuram city

The piped natural gas (PNG) network being laid as part of the ongoing city gas project has so far provided 13,480 PNG connections. THINK Gas (formerly known as AG&P Pratham), the company which undertakes the city gas distribution (CGD) project here, said they are planning to strengthen their presence in the capital by providing 6,000 additional connections by September. As part of the project, areas under active development include Sreekaryam, Edavacode, Ulloor, Akkulam, Anamugham, Kadakampally, Attipra and Kulathoor. There was a delay in providing 2,000 connections in areas like Sreevaraham, Palkulangara, and Perunthanni due to delays in road-cutting permissions of the Defects Liability Period (DLP) roads. Pipeline laying work along the national highway 66 will be completed by May 31 to avoid monsoon disruptions. Thonnakkal plant The recently set-up Thonnakkal plant has higher capacity than the Kochuveli facility, which will support gas distribution to Murukkumpuzha and Pallipuram. Already, 500 households in Mangalapuram panchayat (including the Pallipuram CRPF camp) are connected, where the completion of household connections is expected by July. Also, new CNG stations are being developed at Vizhinjam, Kamaleswaram, and Nalanchira. There are a total of 20 CNG outlets in Thiruvananthapuram district. Varkala CNG station became operational on May 16. The upcoming Vizhinjam station is expected to support port-based truck container movement once cargo operations begin, said company officials. The company has so far spent a sum of ₹700 crore for laying 584 km of MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene) pipelines and 48 km of steel pipelines in Thiruvananthapuram district as part of transporting the gas. It has also been employing horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to reduce road damage and traffic disruptions, said the officials.

City's piped gas network expands with new liquefied compressed natural gas plant at Thonnakkal

Thiruvananthapuram: In a major boost to state capital's gas infrastructure, a new high-capacity liquefied compressed natural gas (LCNG) plant began operations at Life Science Park in Thonnakkal. This is the second LCNG facility in the district, after a plant established at Kochuveli in Jan new plant is expected to accelerate the pace and reach of piped natural gas (PNG) connections across both urban and rural areas. Commissioned on March 30, Thonnakkal LCNG plant , operated by AG&P Pratham , has now been rebranded as THINK Gas. The company started providing piped gas to 500 households in Mangalapuram panchayat, including residents of Pallipuram CRPF camp. Installing connections in this area is expected to be completed by V Nagendran, regional head of THINK Gas, said the Thonnakkal plant had more capacity than the facility at Kochuveli and would support gas distribution to nearby localities of Murukkumpuzha and Pallipuram. "Gas pipeline installation is progressing along NH 66, and pipe laying will be completed by May 31 to avoid disruption during monsoon," he completed PNG connections in the city touch 13,480. The company plans to provide 6,000 additional connections within city limits by Aug or Sept. Areas under development include Sreekaryam, Edavacode, Ulloor, Akkulam, Anamugham and Kadakampally. However, around 2,000 pending connections in Sreevaraham, Palkulangara and Perunthanni have been delayed due to defects liability period, a post-construction warranty timeframe during which roads cannot be excavated. "Pipe-laying work will slow down during monsoon but household connections will continue," said Nagendran. Besides residential pipeline network, city's gas infrastructure is being strengthened by setting up new CNG stations. Facilities are coming up at Vizhinjam, Kamaleswaram and Nalanchira, while a new station at Varkala became operational on Monday. Vizhinjam station is particularly significant, as it will serve truck containers involved in port-based trade after the port becomes active for gateway cargo total pipeline laid in the district now spans 307km at a cost of Rs 700 crore. A key feature of pipeline work was the extensive use of horizontal directional drilling, a trenchless technology that minimises road damage and traffic disruptions. This method is especially useful for laying pipelines under canals and urban new developments in Thiruvananthapuram are expected to not only enhance energy efficiency but also offer households an economical alternative for cooking and energy efficiency Commissioned on March 30 & operated by AG&P PrathamPiped gas provided to 500 households in Mangalapuram panchayatPipeline installation along NH 66 likely to be completed by May 31 Areas under development include Sreekaryam, Edavacode, Ulloor, Akkulam, Anamugham and Kadakampally307km - total pipeline laid in district at a cost of Rs 700 crore

Osaka Gas plans to boost sales of city gas in India tenfold

Chennai – Osaka Gas plans to increase its city gas sales in India by 2030 to around 10 times the current level, to about 3.5 billion cubic meters, as the world's most populous country tries to cut greenhouse gas emissions, company officials have said. The move by the Japanese company comes as India is developing a city gas network to promote the use of natural gas, which is less environmentally damaging than coal and fuel oil. Osaka Gas is laying gas pipes in India in partnership with Indian gas supplier AG&P Pratham, which is partly owned by the Japanese company. In India, where the use of vehicles that run on compressed natural gas is expanding, Osaka Gas also plans to increase the number of CNG refueling stations run by AG&P and others to about 1,000 in 2030 from some 470 at present. AG&P plans to promote decarbonization efforts by introducing highly efficient equipment and technology from Osaka Gas and other partners, CEO Abhilesh Gupta said in an interview in Chennai on Wednesday.
