‘Serious errors' in SSC evaluation a blot on the government, say student organisations

Leaders of student organisations have slammed the TDP-led coalition government for 'serious errors' in the evaluation of SSC answer sheets, and have accused it of failing the student community. All India Student Federation (AISF) State vice-president Sai Kumar said, in the haste to release the SSC results in record time and gain mileage out of it, the persons handling the evaluation task lost focus and delivered inaccurate results. He said, for the first time in history, as many as 66,363 students applied for re-evaluation and, out of them, over 11,000, who were earlier declared failed, now passed. Their percentage of marks also significantly increased. Stating that the inaccurate results caused immense disappointment to many students, he said there were reports of a few distraught students attempting suicide. Mr. Sai Kumar said it was unfortunate that despite such gross mistake, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh had not made any statement on the issue so far. Student Federation of India State president P. Rammohan Rao and secretary K. Prasanna Kumar accused the government of finding scapegoats in teachers for its own failures. They alleged that the authorities were in a hurry to commence Intermediate classes in favour of the corporate institutions. They said drifting from the usual practice of allocating 15 days' time for completion of evaluation, the government brought pressure on teachers to wind up in a week, leading to the errors. Citing examples, they said a student named Mokshitha secured 21 marks in Social Studies initially, but scored 84 after re-evaluation, another student from Bapatla scored 23 marks in Social Studies, but secured 96 after re-evaluation, and in Eluru, a student wrote a 14-page answer, but only eight pages were evaluated. Stating that the students suffered immensely due to the government's negligence, they demanded that action against teachers should be dropped and the re-evaluation fees collected from students should be refunded.

AISF urges Kerala government to withdraw Act permitting private universities

The All India Students Federation (AISF), the student wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI), has demanded that the Kerala government withdraw the Kerala State Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2025, which permits private universities in Kerala. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, A. Adhin, newly elected State secretary of AISF, said the idea of private universities goes against the stated policy of the Left Democratic Front (LDF). 'We cannot ignore the fact that the private universities will have a detrimental effect on the State's education sector. Though the proponents of the Act claim that it will be effective in controlling the migration of students to other countries, the Kerala Migration Survey points out other factors, including quality of life, for such migration. Despite the government's claim that it will have a control over the fee structure in private universities, the experience in the other States shows that this is not always possible. The government should understand the fact that the private universities have only led to a fall in the quality of education,' said Mr. Adhin. The AISF also demanded that the State government appoint a commission to study the fee hikes in Central as well as State universities. 'The fee hikes have made higher studies unaffordable to a large section of students. The commission should be formed with representatives from student organisations, said Mr. Adhin. The State conference of the AISF which was held in Palakkad district last week also passed a resolution calling for the disbanding of the National Testing Agency (NTA) over the frequent lapses related to the conduct of major examinations, causing uncertainty for a large number of students. The responsibility for the conduct of examinations should be returned to the University Grants Commission (UGC) as well as the universities as the NTA has been functioning in a non-transparent manner, it said. Joint fight against terrorism The organisation also called for a joint fight against terrorism, in the light of the terror attacks targeting tourists in Pahalgam in Kashmir. The State conference also elected a 19-member State executive and 65-member State committee. Bibin Abraham was elected as the State president, while M. Rahul, Nadirah Mehrin, Krishnapriya, and P.A. Ismail were elected as the State vice presidents. Aslam Shah, K.A. Akhilesh, Jobin Jacob, B. Darshith and P. Anras were elected as joint secretaries.

AISF demands legal action against Allu Arjun, Sreeleela over 'misleading' education ad; just like betting app cases

The All India Students' Federation ( AISF ) from Vijayawada has stirred controversy by demanding action against popular actors and for allegedly endorsing an educational institution in a misleading manner. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The representative of the students' union released a video on social media holding the front page with the advertisement and accused the stars of promoting false claims that only students from the institution they endorsed Sri Chaitanya that the students achieve top ranks and receive quality education. According to the AISF, these endorsements mislead students and their families into paying hefty fees, often resulting in poor experiences, including problems with hostel facilities. Actors accused of misleading the public The representative said, "Actors like Sreeleela and Allu Arjun endorse some educational institutions and mislead students. They are saying no one but students at Sri Chaitanya get good ranks and are being offered a good education. They are taking money to promote such brands, and those who believe them are paying lakhs of rupees and facing numerous problems in the hostels." The AISF representative also mentioned that both actors agreed to promote the institution without verifying the authenticity of the claims, such as whether the students featured in the advertisements actually secured the ranks mentioned. AISF demands legal consequences They added, "We demand that cases be filed against Sreeleela and Allu Arjun for ruining students' lives. The same must be done here, like cases filed on actors endorsing betting apps. We demand that action be taken against them," they said. In March, several well-known actors like Rana Daggubati, , Prakash Raj, and others, along with numerous social media influencers, faced police cases for allegedly promoting betting apps. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now These cases were registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Gaming Act, and the Information Technology Act. The AISF contends that misleading educational endorsements should be treated with the same seriousness due to their harmful impact on students and families. As of now, neither Allu Arjun nor Sreeleela has publicly responded to these allegations.

Cloud of uncertainty lifts, JNUSU polls set for Friday

New Delhi: After days of uncertainty and disruptions surrounding the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) elections, the much-anticipated presidential debate is now scheduled to take place on Wednesday. Polls will be held on Friday. The announcement comes after a turbulent week marked by protests, security concerns and delays in the election process. The final list of candidates for the central panel posts has been released. There are 13 students in the fray for the post of president, five for vice-president, six for general secretary, and five for joint secretary. Under the United Left alliance , AISA and DSF have fielded joint candidates: Nitish Kumar for president, Manisha for vice-president, Munteha Fatima for general secretary and Naresh Kumar for joint secretary. Another alliance, the Left-Ambedkarite Unity Panel comprising SFI, AISF, BAPSA and PSA, has nominated Choudhary Tayyaba Ahmed (SFI) for president, Santosh Kumar (AISF) for vice-president, Ramniwas Gurjar (BAPSA) for general secretary and Nigam Kumari (PSA) for joint secretary. ABVP has fielded Shikha Swaraj for president, Nittu Goutham for vice-president, Kunal Rai for general secretary, and Vaibhav Meena for joint secretary. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Google Brain Co-Founder Andrew Ng, Recommends: Read These 5 Books And Turn Your Life Around Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo The previous day, the JNUSU election committee approached the university administration seeking protection from Delhi Police, claiming threats to the lives of its members. The committee had declared that the poll process would only resume once the safety of its members and student organisations could be ensured. There were concerns that the polls might have to be cancelled entirely if there were delays in releasing the schedule. The elections, originally scheduled for April 25, were put on hold last Friday following reports of violence and vandalism targeting the committee office and its members. In a notice issued, the committee cited a "major lapse of security" and an "environment of hostility, fear, and insecurity" as the reasons for the suspension. The committee also stated that the process would only resume once adequate security measures were in place and urged the administration to take action against those responsible for the violence. It criticised the administration's "inaction" despite repeated requests for protection. University officials said that the JNUSU polls were conducted entirely by the students and the administration did not intervene in them. The timeline leading up to the disruption saw multiple delays and confrontations. The final list of candidates was initially to be released on April 16, but due to delays in verifying nomination forms, the deadline was extended by one day. Candidates were asked to withdraw their nominations by 4pm on April 17. However, tensions rose when disagreements broke out during the withdrawal process, reportedly linked to the breakdown of the long-standing United Left alliance. The deadline was briefly extended by 30 minutes, during which some candidates attempted to submit their nominations. This led to protests by ABVP, claiming their candidates were denied a fair chance. Late on Thursday, SFI launched a protest that lasted into the early hours of Friday. In response, the election officer issued an order allowing candidates to withdraw their nominations between 2pm and 2.30pm on Friday—a move that ABVP opposed as "undemocratic." The situation escalated further when students breached barricades and damaged property, including breaking glass at the committee office. The security guards present were unable to control the crowd, prompting the police to step in.
