Police arrest ‘person of interest' in Illinois AMBER Alert after 8 year old abducted, found safe
CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — A 'person of interest' in the abduction of an 8-year-old boy and two stabbings — one fatal — has been taken into custody Friday, hours after an AMBER Alert was issued in Illinois.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the connected crimes began at 7 p.m. on Thursday, when a 33-year-old woman, Teone Jones, was stabbed multiple times at a home in the 7100 block of South Eberhart.
Jones was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An hour later, at 8 p.m. police were called to the 200 block of West 66th Street, where Jones' 11-year-old son was found by firefighters, suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest. Authorities said the child is currently in critical condition at Comer Children's Hospital.
Early Friday morning, police issued an AMBERT Alert for Jones' other son, 8-year-old Tristan Gaters.
Authorities said Tristan had been abducted from the South Eberhart address by a suspect in a silver 2022 Ford Escape.
He was found around 4:30 a.m. near 82nd Street and Damen around 4:30 a.m., police said, although he was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition, but later stabilized.
According to , the Indiana State Police said the 'person of interest' in the case was taken into custody in Indiana, on Interstate 65 near the Crown Point exit.
Police have not yet released that person's identity.
