After work dried up, the couple moved lock stock and barrel to Europe with their daughter Millie. Initially, things on A New Life in the Sun: Where Are They Now?, went well for the couple. The pair managed to get their huge home up to scratch ready to welcome guests for a bed and breakfast escape. However, they bought the empty plot of land next door as they planned to build a state-of-the-art bungalow for Ellie's mum Linda. Although work started on the new home, it soon came to a standstill as the couple engaged in a battle with the local authorities. They were left frustrated by all the bureaucracy as they didn't get the correct planning permission on the A Place In The Sun spin-off. Ellie said: "We've been focusing on the planning for mum's house, which it finally came through." While Gary admitted: "Yep, it didn't go according to plan like we knew it would and it was all paperwork." They thought the job would only take a few months, but they were wrangling with the system for over a year. The duo were left fuming about the progress of the home as they showed the camera their bulging file of documents. Ellie explained: "That's the building visa that says we could build. But then you've got documents. A Place In The Sun's Jasmine Harman reveals filming halted after buyers broke down

A Place In The Sun presenter Jasmine Harman has said that the property market can be a "rollercoaster of emotions" as she shared a particularly sad moment from the show Jasmine Harman, the face of A Place In The Sun, has opened up about a particularly poignant episode of the hit show. The long-time presenter described how the journey to find the perfect property abroad for hopeful buyers can be an emotional whirlwind. In an interview with the Express, the Channel 4 star shared details of a heart-breaking event involving a young woman who had been through a "terrible time". Despite a diligent search that led to the discovery of her ideal home, disaster struck when they attempted to seal the deal. ‌ Jasmine recalled: "The most upsetting moment that I've had on this show was quite recently when I was house hunting with a lovely lady, and she had her best friend with her. And she came to me in the morning, and she decided to make an offer on the property, so I had to break the news to her. "I called the agent to ensure they were standing by, but the property had been sold that morning before we spoke," she revealed. "It was awful. I had to inform her that we had received this update from the agent and that someone else had purchased it. She was just about to make an offer on it. We all cried our eyes out. It was horrendous. It was the worst." ‌ She added: "It was really upsetting because we were all on this big high. She had been through a lot, this poor lady. She had been through a really terrible time. It was like a new chapter but the rug got pulled out from under her. So that was really horrible." Navigating through the tough property market can be tough but warm fuzzy stories like that of Lisa and Paul bring a smile. The couple's home-hunting journey turned dream to reality, and their story was shared by the presenter with much affection. ‌ The host recalled fondly: "One couple I remember were lovely. Lisa and Paul. She had cancer, and he had looked after her. They didn't have a lot of money. "She received some cash from the health insurance after she got ill, and they had a very low budget, so we took them on a very emotional house hunt. "We found them an apartment which they bought and it was a lovely, really amazingly emotional moment and when we went back to revisit them I could not believe the difference in them." Jasmine followed up with the pair for the C4 follow-up series A New Life In The Sun, and was pleased to see they were living a happy life in their new home. Speaking of the revisit, she shared: "It was so heartwarming to see how they changed their lives so dramatically with their health and new opportunity to travel and make new friends. That was a really emotional revisit for me." A Place in the Sun is on Channel 4 weekdays at 3pm.

Channel 4 stars detained in Iran on round the world trip after ignoring advice

By Mia O'Hare and Neal Keeling A British couple have been detained in Iran after ignoring warnings from family and the Foreign Office not to visit the country. Craig and Lindsay Foreman had appeared in the Channel 4 programme "A New Life In The Sun". They have been travelling around the globe on a motorbike trip, but were detained by Islamic Republic's draconian security services last month. Their family have issued a desperate plea for them to be returned home as they expressed concern for their safety READ MORE: ITV Emmerdale fans rumble 'real' father of April Windsor's baby and it's 'not Anthony' READ MORE: ITV Emmerdale star teases 'we don't know' if iconic couple survives in 'confirmed' death twist The couple who are in their early 50s, said they were putting their faith in there being 'good, kind humans' everywhere in the world as they entered the country from Armenia on December 30th. After crossing into Iran Mr Foreman, a carpenter, and Dr Foreman, a life coach, stayed in Tabriz, Tehran and Isfahan. But they never reached their next hotel in Kerman. Originally from East Sussex and they had moved to southern Spain in 2019. Their move abroad was featured on the Channel 4 show. Lindsay had acknowledged the risks of travelling to Iran against Foreign Office advice was "slightly scary". They wanted to travel all the way to Australia. They had planned to pass through a variety of countries on their route and crossed into Iran and planned to reach Pakistan by January 4th, The Mirror reports. The Foreign Office currently advises against all travel to Iran, warning of a "significant risk" of arrest, questioning or detention. Iranian state media issued blurred photos of Craig and Lindsay earlier this week as they met with UK ambassador Hugo Shorter. The regime used the tightly controlled press to say the couple had been detained on unspecified "security" offences. The ministry released a message from their family that read: "We would like to take this opportunity to address the distressing situation concerning Craig and Lindsay Foreman who are currently being detained in Kerman, Iran. This unexpected turn of events has caused significant concern for our entire family, and we are deeply focused on ensuring their safety and well-being during this trying time. "We are actively engaging with the British government and relevant authorities, working diligently to navigate the complexities of this matter. The family are united in our determination to secure their safe return. We truly appreciate the outpouring of support from friends, family, and the community, which has provided us with strength and encouragement as we face this ordeal. In light of the circumstances, we kindly ask for the utmost respect regarding our family's privacy. The emotional burden of this situation weighs heavily on us, and we request that all media inquiries be directed to the FCDO as we manage this challenging chapter in our lives." Just before the arrest, Lindsay had opened up on the risks involved in their trip. She wrote on Instagram: "Yes, we're aware of the risks. But we also know the rewards of meeting incredible people, hearing their stories, and seeing the breathtaking landscapes of these regions could far outweigh the fear. From the vast deserts of Iran to the towering peaks of Pakistan, we hope to share the beauty, hospitality, and humanity that often go unnoticed." They had stayed in hotels in the cities of Tabriz, Tehran and Isfahan, accompanied by a tour guide. The Foremans moved on to Kerman, a provincial capital in the centre of the country, yet they never checked in to their booked hotel. Craig and Lindsay had been documenting their travels on social media and had praised their time in the country. Lindsay said she was having "an amazing time" while Craig praised the "lovely people" they encountered in "lovely" country. A photo was shared of Lindsay on January 3 meeting a religious leader in the town of Isfahan, as they said: "Travel continues to teach me that humanity's core is shared: kindness, humility, and respect for one another." In a Facebook post shared that same day, Lindsay shared: "Despite differences in culture, language, and traditions, we've seen something beautifully universal: kindness, humour, hospitality - and a shared love of good food!" She was reportedly working on a research project while travelling about the secrets to a well-lived life and intended to share her findings in Brisbane in July.
