APMC chairman announces doctor-friendly initiatives
Tirupati: AP Medical Council (APMC) Chairman Dr D Shree Hari Rao announced a series of doctor-friendly initiatives aimed at improving convenience and accessibility for medical professionals across the State. He was felicitated by Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) on Saturday, following his recent appointment as APMC Chairman. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rao said that virtual Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions and guest lectures will soon be made available for doctors. To address doctors' concerns more efficiently, a dedicated grievances cell and WhatsApp support services will also be launched shortly. He further informed that special medical camps are being arranged to facilitate the renewal of medical certificates. 'We urge all doctors to make the best use of these services,' he said. Highlighting the Council's plans to decentralise operations, Dr Rao announced that district-level registration camps will be conducted first in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and Kakinada, with other districts to follow. SVIMS Director-cum-Vice Chancellor Dr RV Kumar, who presided over the event, praised Dr Rao for his long-standing association with SVIMS, where he previously served as a radiologist. He recalled Dr Rao's active involvement in awareness programmes and state-wide medical camps. Faculty members also expressed their fond memories of working with Dr Rao and noted his invaluable support to SVIMS during the COVID-19 pandemic.

AP Medical Council gets new chairman and vice-chairman
1 2 Vijayawada: The state govt has cleared the names of Dr Daggumati Srihari Rao as chairman and Dr Gogineni Sujatha as vice-chairman of AP Medical Council . The govt recently named six renowned medical professionals, including Srihari Rao (Tirupati), Sujatha (Vijayawada), Dr KV Subbarayudu (Ongole), Dr Kesavarao (Vijayawada), Dr C Malliswari as members of medical council. However, intense lobbying by various groups got the selection of chairman and vice-chairman delayed. Sources said a strong group of doctors and medical colleges in the state wanted Dr Gogineni Sujatha, a gynecologist at Pinnamaneni Siddartha govt medical college, as chairperson of the medical council. However, health minister Satya Kumar Yadav is believed to have backed the candidature of Srihari Rao, who was a strong contender for Tirupati Lok Sabha seat in the last elections. The Tirupati-based radiologist served as vice-chairman of medical council in the past. He also served as national vice-president of Indian Medical Association (IMA) and was also state president of IMA. He is president-elect of Indian Radiologists Association (IRA). Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu is believed to have cleared the name of Srihari Rao. Another 13 posts in the medical council were lying vacant since the resignation of the members in the previous governing council. The 13 posts will be elected by practicing doctors in the state. The govt has to nominate another four ex-officio members to the council.
