Rare 'Strawberry Moon' to light up Saudi skies on June 11
Saudi Gazette report ARAR — Skywatchers around the world including Saudi Arabia can witness on Wednesday, June 11, a rare astronomical phenomenon known as the 'Great Lunar Standstill,' which occurs approximately once every 18.6 years. This phenomenon occurs when the tilt of the moon's orbit reaches its maximum north-south deviation, causing the moon to rise and set at the farthest points of the horizon. The Astronomy and Space Club explained that this phenomenon will coincide this year with the rise of the "Strawberry Moon" from the farthest southern point, in a striking astronomical spectacle that can be seen with the naked eye under clear skies. This phenomenon is a rare astronomical event, and will not occur again until 2043, making it a unique opportunity for astronomy enthusiasts, photographers, and skywatchers to document this unique event.

Jadidat Arar border crossing welcomes first group of Iraqi pilgrims
Saudi Gazette report ARAR — The Jadidat Arar Border Crossing received on Thursday the first group of pilgrims arriving from Iraq on board 192 buses. Pilgrims were greeted with streamlined organizational procedures to ensure their smooth entry and ease of transit, aligning with the directives of the Saudi leadership to enhance service quality and ensure comfort from arrival to departure. All the relevant authorities within the region, under the supervision of the Emir of Northern Borders Region Prince Faisal bin Khalid, are working collaboratively to expedite all necessary procedures and provide comprehensive services, including medical, preventive, and awareness care. These authorities are also coordinating closely to allocate the required human resources and capabilities to guarantee the comfort and safety of the arriving pilgrims.

Salsola tetrandra shrub reappears in Northern Borders after decades-long absence
ARAR: A vital pastoral shrub once widespread in the Hamad area of Saudi Arabia's Northern Borders region has reappeared after decades of absence, the Saudi Press Agency reports. Environment authorities have attributed the near extinction of the plant in the 1990s due to overgrazing. Lately, Salsola tetrandra shrubs had been reported in inaccessible, rocky areas, signaling the plant's potential for recovery. The plant is considered a crucial food source for wildlife and livestock. It also plays a critical role in providing sustenance for animals, stabilizing soil, preventing erosion, contributing to the sustainability of natural pastures, and reflecting the Kingdom's rich environmental diversity. Authorities are intensifying efforts to enhance pasture rehabilitation programs and combat overgrazing, aiming to restore the plant to its previous ecological status. National environmental protection efforts are expected to facilitate the broader return of Salsola tetrandra in the coming years, bolstering environmental sustainability and restoring balance to natural ecosystems in the Northern Borders. The Kingdom has been in the forefront of the global campaign to restore ecological balance, with an ambitious plan to plant 10 billions trees and shrubs. Since its launch of the Saudi Green Initiative in 2021, the Kingdom has planted 100 million trees and shrubs and rehabilitated 118,000 hectares of degraded land.
