Last Day to Submit Designs for Creative Waco Mural
WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — According to Creative Waco's Facebook, their ArtPrenticeship program is seeking bold and innovative mural designs for the 7th Street at Austin Avenue project.
In collaboration with the City of Waco's Public Information & Downtown Waco, this initiative will transform a pedestrian-friendly area into a vibrant, interactive landmark celebrating the essence of Texas and Waco. The selected design will be brought to life by ARTPrenticeship mentors and apprentices, offering young artists invaluable hands-on experience in large-scale public art.
They are looking for a street pavement mural concept focusing on creative placemaking to activate the downtown pedestrian block as a space for events while also encouraging everyday engagement. The organization is looking for something that:
Engages pedestrians and visitors by transforming the space into a visually compelling
and interactive experience.
Reflects Texas and Waco—whether through history, culture, nature, or local motifs.
Incorporates a limited color palette for a cohesive, impactful aesthetic.
Encouraging interaction, education and/or playfulness in its design elements.
Feels fresh, bold, positive and inviting, making it a standout visual landmark.
The Facebook page also states the chosen artist will receive $1,500 to refine their design with feedback from stakeholders. Shortlisted artists will receive $350 to develop and present their concept at Pitch Day. The ARTPrenticeship team will bring the mural to life in June-July 2025.
