Teacher charged with possessing obscene materials on phone
JOHOR BARU: A teacher was charged at the magistrate's court here today with possessing obscene materials on his mobile phone last year.
Gusti Ishak Fitri Shah, 30, initially pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him by the court interpreter before Magistrate A Shaarmini.
However, when asked by the magistrate if he understood the charge and possible sentence following his guilty plea, considering he is a civil servant, the man simply smiled.
"Don't smile at me. I am asking if you want to plead guilty or not guilty. If you do not plead guilty, you must engage a lawyer to represent you," said Shaarmini.
The accused then changed his plea to not guilty.
According to the charge sheet, he is accused of possessing obscene materials on his mobile phone at Taman Cahaya Masai, Pasir Gudang, at around 7pm on Jan 13 last year.
He is charged under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam offered bail at RM10,000 with one surety.
The court later granted bail at RM3,000 and fixed May 30 as mention.
