Earlier, the state govt issued a notification revising the number of wards in municipalities and corporations. As per the new norms, municipalities must have a minimum of 26 and a maximum of 53 wards. In corporations, the number of wards must range from 56 to 101. The ward revision was based on the 2011 Census population figures. As a result, 128 new wards were added to municipalities and seven to corporations. However, Cherpulassery municipality and Thrikkadeeri grama panchayat in Palakkad district were excluded from this delimitation process since their ward structure remained unchanged after the 2015 revision. Following the completion of the first phase of delimitation, Kerala now has 17,337 wards in 941 grama panchayats, 3,241 wards in 87 municipalities, and 421 wards in six corporations. The final notification is available on the state printing department's e-gazette website: All voters listed in the existing electoral rolls will be reassigned to the newly defined wards. Electoral registration officers (EROs) will prepare the revised voter lists. The state election commission's training for EROs will conclude on June 5. Secretaries of grama panchayats and municipalities, and additional secretaries in corporations will serve as EROs.
