Laurie looks to build on Sydney success after group 1 autumn blitz
Victorian trainer Matt Laurie is keen to build on his group 1 treble at the Sydney autumn carnival – on and off the track in NSW. Laurie has two runners at Randwick on Saturday, and he hopes to set both on a path to the listed Ortensia Stakes at Scone on May 17. Off the track, the Mornington trainer, still savouring his breakthrough Sydney group 1 wins with Treasurethe Moment (Vinery Stud Stakes and ATC Oaks) and Vinrock (ATC Sires' Produce), hopes to one day have a satellite stable in the state. 'I'd love to have a little barn up there, but God knows where I'd be able to get something,' said Laurie, who has submitted an expression of interest for Newcastle's proposed, but still unfunded, stable development. 'It's something that if the opportunity arose, we'd certainly take it on a small scale to begin with. It's just good to go to other places. You don't want to be stuck in the same zone. 'That's just something we've discussed, but then it's trying to settle on a place, then when you do, there's not much available.' On Saturday, Laurie has Miss Icelandic ($7 Sportsbet) in race four, a benchmark 78 handicap over 1000m, and Sparkling ($8.50) in the seventh, a benchmark 78 over 1200m. The mares, racing in NSW for the first time, are resuming after last-start efforts in Melbourne in early November. Laurie is eyeing a first black-type result for the pair after Saturday's test.

Queanbeyan, Coffs Harbour best bets and inside mail for Tuesday April 22, 2025
Racenet and The Daily Telegraph form analyst Shayne O'Cass provides his best bets and quaddie analysis at Queanbeyan and Coffs Harbour on Tuesday. â– â– â– â– â– QUEANBEYAN TIPS BEST BET Race 4 No.8: RINSED ENUFF Has form around the likes of Oaks runner-up Sun 'N' Sand and Brigidine Gal. NEXT BEST Race 3 No.3: KOTAISHI City placed Sniztel who has a second and a win for the new trainer. Suited here. VALUE BET Race 5 No.1: FOURCADE Back to a Benchmark 58 from the Southern Wild Card last start. QUADDIE Race 4: 5, 8 Race 5: 1, 3, 6 Race 6: 5, 6 Race 7: 2, 4 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW WINONA COSTIN could rack up some points in the TAB Jockeys Challenge QUEANBEYAN INSIDE MAIL RINSED ENUFF makes her second visit to Queanbeyan since October last year where she finished a half-length second to Sun 'N' Sand who was runner-up in the ATC Oaks. Rinsed Enuff's follow-up run was an honourable fourth at Rosehill to Brigidine Gal. SHEER TERRA is a locally-housed 5YO mare who led but was passed late when a distant second on debut here 10 days ago over 1200m. BET: Rinsed Enuff to win, quinella 5, 8 FOURCADE has four wins and eight placings from 21 starts. All of those wins are circa 1200m and was runner-up at her only prior t/d run. Has form around good horses and is back to a 58 after running in the Wild Card. PRINCE KURO has done more good than bad in his sevens starts. He is blessed with barrier three and the state's leading jockey, Nick Heywood. CRUCIAL WITNESS loves this t/d. BET: Fourcade to win, box trifecta 1, 3, 6, 9. DD 1st Leg 1, 2nd Leg 4 JULIETTE'S JOY is a superbly-bred Gerry Harvey/Joe Cleary co-production. The daughter of Savabeel has won three times together with three seconds in her 10 starts since leaving Team Hayes in Victoria. Two of those wins are here at home. Big run first-up. ZALE has only managed one win from 21 starts but to be fair, he has run in a lot of good quality races, some in town. Can win if he brings his best. RUFF is from an astute/in form stable. Market watch advised. BET: Juliette's Joy to win BOLO MISS could, with a little extra luck be three from three or at least two from three. Whatever the case, it is clear that she is a handy 3YO. That was an utterly decisive win there at Wellington on Cup day. Just hope the track layout doesn't beat her today. PRINCESS HALO has won four times over this trip and placed three times as well at/around the 1000m. On top of that, she too is a last-start winner and for once – she has a favourable draw. Could be very hard to catch and pass here. BET: Bolo Miss to win, quinella 2, 4 â– â– â– â– â– COFFS HARBOUR TIPS BEST BET Race 3 No.5: DIVINE BENE Won at Beaumont then third to a handy one at Newcastle. NEXT BEST Race 9 No.14: WEALTHY INVESTOR Been in great form this preparation at the provincials. VALUE BET Race 1 No.14: WHISKEY MISS Easy to like first-up at 1415m. Has talent beyond this. COFFS HARBOUR INSIDE MAIL RACE 6: BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1012m) COOL FIZZ is trained at Coffs Harbour by Brett Dodson which accounts for her excellent record at the track and distance of two wins, one second from four goes. It would seem to be, looking at her form, that she prefers soft/heavy to good tracks so if it stays Soft 7 (as it was at the time of writing), she's the one to beat. EGOTISTIC has won two from three on soft but more importantly, all of his three career wins are at 1000m. He could peak here third-up. BET: Cool Fizz to win, quinella 2, 4 MISS MAZERATI is another Brett Dodson-housed local. This mare has won four from 31 with seven placings but you'd need two hands to count the number of times she has been unlucky through track bias, unsuitable tempos and such. Charges when circumstances allow. She was an easy winner here on March 2 beating Boambee Beach who has notched four seconds from six runs here at home. SNOW FALCON is a last start winner who was runner-up to Bodhi Boy before that. BET: Miss Mazerati to win, box trifecta 1, 3, 5, 8, DD 1st Leg 5, 2nd Leg 14 HAIVERON is an 8YO son of Dundeel who just recently ticked off his 40th start but he is racing so well, you wouldn't think he is rising nine. The Donna Traecey-trained bay won his 39th start, namely a 1400m Benchmark 58 at Grafton, prior to a close and closing fifth of 14 at Port Mac from barrier 12. HE'S A COPY BOY was a half length behind Haiveron in that Port race. Drawn wide (is that good or bad on the day?) but otherwise ticks a lot of boxes. BET: Haiveron to win, quinella 2, 4 WEALTHY INVESTOR was third to Lady Laguna on debut at Rosehill way back in 2021. He ran in the Sires' and Champagne in 2022. As for recent form, he's going well and getting close. VEADACHANCE, a $6000 online purchase in October, has banked $21K in just four runs for Colt Prosser, the lion's share of which came last start at Taree when she won a Benchmark 82 with a whole lot of authority. That was a mile, 1315m now but she is four weeks between runs. BET: Wealthy Investor each-way, quinella 8, 14, exact 14 to beat 8
