Heartless HOA orders woman to remove ‘nuisance' Memorial Day display honoring fallen Army vet brother

It's downright un-American. An Arizona homeowners' association has ordered one resident to remove a Memorial Day tribute to her fallen US Army soldier brother — telling her that the patriotic exhibit was 'a nuisance.' Kendall Rasmusson placed flags and banners on her front lawn, and a large poster of her brother, Sgt. John Kyle Daggett, on her garage door in Surprise, Arizona, to remember her sibling during national holiday, AZ Family reported Monday. FOX 19 NOW 4 Kendall Rasmusson said she decorates her Arizona home during holidays to honor her fallen US Army brother. FOX 19 NOW But that didn't sit well with the company managing the local homeowner's association, Rasmusson told the TV station. Advertisement 'My brother really loved his country, and I've very proud and that's really the point,' she said. 'It's been interesting navigating life without him.' 4 Kendall Rasmusson said the management company for her homeowners association ordered her to remove her display FOX 19 NOW She said the HOA management company called the display an eyesore in the neighborhood. 'They put it in comparison with dead plants, dead trees and bushes,' Rasmusson said. 'And it was kind of offensive to have it be in this comparison of what they're calling a nuisance.' Advertisement She posted her objections on a local neighborhood group page and received a follow-up email from the management company, telling her their decree wasn't meant to 'overlook the significance of the display.' But the result was the same. 4 The managers of Kendall Rasmusson's homeowners association called her honor to her brother 'a nuisance.' FOX 19 NOW Rasmusson told the outlets that she's been pestered over her display before, and was fined $500 by the previous management company in 2018 before being granted a 'grace period.' Advertisement She said she assumed the new company would honor that. She said she posts the display during holidays, primarily Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day for her brother, who died in 2008 after being mortally wounded in a rocket-propelled grenade attack in Baghdad. The management company was not publicly identified in the local news reports.

Manuel Vega Lopez was fatally shot in Gilbert, Ariz. Police arrested Wyatt Ford on a second-degree murder charge Vega's daughter is raising funds for her family after her father was killedA man who was hired as a landscaper by a landlord was allegedly fatally shot by a renter on the property, police said. Manuel Vega Lopez, 51, was killed in Gilbert, Ariz., on Monday, May 19, the Gilbert Police Department said in a statement. The following day, police arrested 28-year-old Wyatt Ford in connection with the shooting, per the statement. Authorities say police responding to a report of an 'argument' found Lopez's body in front of a residence. Lopez was shot while police were en route. According to court documents cited by AZ Family, ABC 15 and AZ Central, Ford assumed Lopez was responsible for what Ford and his wife believed to be a break-in in their trailer a few days prior. However, authorities alleged in court documents that Ford had been informed by the landlord that a landscaper would be coming to the location to trim trees in the yard, the outlets reported. Ford's wife told authorities Ford had received the text message and responded to it. After the shooting, one witness alleged they heard Ford saying 'I didn't mean to,' according to court documents cited by AZ Central. In a GoFundMe set up to assist his family with taking his body to his native Mexico, Lopez's daughter said he was a "devoted hardworking landscaper" and the "eyes and legs" for his wife, who is on dialysis and losing her eyesight. "He was a caring, attentive, respectful and loving husband, father and friend. A life full of love, hope, happiness and anything life could offer," Manuelita Vega said in the fundraiser. "He built our family a home not in elegance but in simplicity and contentment. As a father, he worked with all his strength in all the ways he could, to earn the income and gave his family all the support he could," she added. Lopez's son, a cancer survivor, also remains ill as the family grieves the "caring, attentive" landscaper's death, Vega Ford was taken into the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on charges of second-degree murder, per Gilbert Police's statement. It wasn't immediately clear if he has entered a plea. An attorney listed for him in court records did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. Read the original article on People

Wife who didn't show up at airport was fatally beaten by husband, AZ cops say

A man was arrested after being accused of fatally beating his wife, Arizona police said. On May 14, officers got a call about a missing woman later identified as 41-year-old Alison Gregory, who was supposed to pick up a relative from the airport but failed to show up, according to a Facebook post by the Surprise Police Department. The report said that Gregory and her 56-year-old husband, Brandon Gregory, lived together 'but were going through a difficult divorce,' police said. When officers arrived at the home, they found evidence of a 'physical struggle,' officers said. The woman's car was found in Mohave County, about a 150-mile drive northwest from Surprise, police said. He was found inside the car with his wife's body, officers said. Officers learned their home was being sold and she asked him to leave but the altercation turned physical when his wife kicked him in the groin while holding a baseball bat, police told AZ Family. He grabbed the wooden bat from her and began 'hitting her several times,' officers told the outlet. He was taken into custody without incident and booked on charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter, tampering with evidence and concealment of a dead body, police said. Surprise is about a 40-mile drive northwest from Phoenix.
