Madhya Pradesh orders crackdown on duplicate PM Kisan beneficiaries
The Madhya Pradesh government has directed district officials to identify and disqualify beneficiaries in cases where both the husband and wife from the same family are availing benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, The Indian Express has learnt. This comes after several such cases were reported from across the state. On May 21, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare issued an SOP to be followed for necessary action in such cases. On May 19, the state's Commissioner, Land Records, wrote a letter to all district collectors to crack down on cases of multiple beneficiaries from the same family. The letter was written following video conferences on May 9 and May 16 by the Centre regarding the PM-KISAN scheme. Under the scheme, eligible families are provided `6,000 per year in three equal instalments. As per clause 3 of the PM-KISAN scheme guidelines, 'A landholding farmer family is defined as a family consisting of husband, wife, and minor children who own cultivable land as per the land records of the concerned State/UT.' The Commissioner's letter said, 'During the aforementioned video conferences, it was highlighted that more than one member of the same family (both husband and wife) is availing the scheme benefits. It was directed that such cases be identified and both members be marked ineligible on the PM-KISAN portal by May 31, 2025.' 'This will allow for adjustment of the excess amount received and ensure that only the rightful amount is credited to one member of the family in future instalments,' the letter read. A government official said district officials were directed to prepare a beneficiary list, weed out those who don't qualify under the scheme through physical visits. 'In cases where both the husband and wife are availing benefits, they should be marked ineligible.' A senior official from Betul district told The Indian Express, 'We have identified 13,000 such cases… there were people from the same family taking benefits of the scheme multiple times. This is an ongoing exercise… the accounts will be adjusted.' Officials said the exercise should be carried out before the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN payments due to be released in the first week of June 2025. The SOP issued by the Centre, a de-duplication exercise is to be carried out using Aadhaar-linked KYC details of beneficiaries and PDS data. In cases with more than one beneficiary linked, the officials have to filter where the members are registered, and whether they are related. Once the total number of instalments transferred to a pair of beneficiaries identified as husband and wife is adjusted against the cumulative entitlement, 'the female beneficiary may be reinstated, subject to eligibility'. 'Their land ownership details should be re-verified, using the Farmer ID or relevant land documents,' the SOP said.

Snabbit raises $19 mn to expand on-demand home services across India
Snabbit, a fast-growing app that provides on-demand home services, has secured $19 million in a Series B funding round led by venture capital firm Lightspeed. Existing investors Elevation Capital and Nexus Venture Partners also participated in the round. With the new funding, Snabbit plans to expand its footprint across major Indian metropolitan areas and enter more than 200 micro-markets over the next nine months. The company is positioning itself to build what it describes as India's first comprehensive operating system for rapid home services—driven by technology, reliability and a network of trained professionals. 'At Snabbit, we're leading the biggest disruption in Indian consumer internet today, fundamentally changing how households access regular services,' said Aayush Agarwal, founder and chief executive officer, Snabbit. 'While ride-hailing transformed mobility and e-commerce reshaped fashion, regular home services remained largely undigitised. With Snabbit, we're solving for trust, quality and speed, all at the tap of a button. The need is universal, the category is massive, and we're just getting started.' The fresh capital comes just four months after Snabbit's Series A raise, signalling strong investor confidence in the startup's rapid growth and its potential to tap into an underpenetrated segment of India's consumer internet market. Founded in 2024 by Aayush Agarwal, Snabbit seeks to bring digital structure to India's largely informal home services sector—long a fragmented and underserved corner of the consumer economy. The startup's hyperlocal model connects users with trained and verified service professionals in real time, aiming to streamline the delivery of high-frequency household services in urban areas. Snabbit's impact goes well beyond convenience for customers. At the heart of the platform are women who were once part of an unstructured, unstable ecosystem. 'What makes this journey truly meaningful is the transformation in their lives,' said Agarwal. 'They now have Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, personal and family insurance, and steady monthly incomes. Once invisible and underpaid, they're now trained, trusted and celebrated professionals. For customers, Snabbit is about quality and speed—for our Experts, it's about dignity, stability and real upward mobility.' Rahul Taneja, partner at Lightspeed, said Snabbit is transforming home services in India by bringing speed, structure and trust to a sector that has largely operated informally until now. 'Aayush and the team are building a platform for urban households; a completely new category that will cater to the needs of millions,' said Taneja. Suvir Sujan, co-founder and managing director, Nexus Venture Partners, said Snabbit continues to execute with clarity and purpose in a space that's long overdue for change. 'They've taken a complex, hyperlocal problem and built a scalable, full-stack solution that delivers value to both consumers and professionals,' said Sujan. Speaking about the investment, Manish Advani, principal, Elevation Capital, said Snabbit's hyperlocal model is cracking the code in one of India's most complex and underserved categories. He said their rapid growth underscores both the scale of unmet demand and their ability to convert a trust-deficit sector into a seamless, on-demand experience. 'We have deep conviction in Aayush and the team as they build the backbone infrastructure that will make quality home services routine, reliable and extremely convenient,' said Advani.

Ration card issuance causes distress due to Aadhaar, electricity data errors in Andhra Pradesh
1 2 Vijayawada: While the long-awaited process of issuing new ration cards in Andhra Pradesh has resumed, the process seems to have became a major source of distress for many applicants, as a series of technical and administrative errors, particularly in Aadhaar seeding and electricity consumption mapping, have rendered thousands of genuine applicants ineligible. Ration cards are now crucial for accessing various welfare schemes, including old-age pensions, disability pensions, and financial assistance for mothers. The issuance of ration cards is based on data such as Aadhaar linkage, electricity usage, and vehicle ownership. Unfortunately, many citizens are being denied ration cards due to errors not of their making. A key issue lies in Aadhaar-linked electricity data. Applicants consuming over 300 units of electricity per month — calculated on an annual average — are marked ineligible. But many discovered that their Aadhaar numbers are incorrectly seeded to others' high-consumption electricity connections. "We live in a small house and consume less than 200 units of electricity. Still, my husband's Aadhaar is somehow linked to another person's electricity connection. We were asked to rectify it and placed an application with the electricity department," said L Vijaya, a ration card applicant from the city. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Family data errors in Aadhaar are also proving problematic. The cards of married women whose Aadhaar cards are still linked to their parents' addresses are being rejected during verification. "Despite repeated requests, the local secretariat hasn't updated my address. Now they insist I must submit a marriage certificate," K Sravani, who moved to Vijayawada after marriage, rued. This has led to long queues at Aadhaar and electricity department offices, as frustrated applicants scramble to fix errors and reapply. Civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar stated that the ration card issuance is an ongoing process with no fixed deadline. "There is room to correct Aadhaar or electricity mapping errors. Applicants can resolve these issues and submit fresh applications," he assured, urging patience and cooperation.
