Rumours of temple closure spike pilgrim surge at Telangana's Vemulawada

RAJANNA-SIRCILLA: As the government's previously announced plan to expand the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada approaches, rumours have triggered a massive surge in pilgrim numbers. A few days ago, Government Whip Aadi Srinivas announced that the expansion work would begin on June 15. However, with no official confirmation regarding the closure of the temple, there has been a spike in footfall, with local reports indicating that daily pilgrim numbers have jumped from the usual 20,000 to over 50,000 in recent days, especially on Fridays and weekends. Responding to the situation, both temple officials and Aadi Srinivas have clarified that no final decision has been made regarding the commencement of expansion works. Speaking to TNIE, temple executive officer K Vinod Reddy dismissed the rumours, stating, 'The news that the temple will be closed from June 15 is far from the truth. Detailed plans regarding darshan arrangements and the Bheemeshwara Temple facilities will be announced soon.' He further explained that the expansion of the main temple premises will only commence once proper facilities for devotees are in place at the Bheemeshwara Temple. The expansion will follow the principles of Agama Shastra, ensuring spiritual and architectural sanctity. 'The temple will not be closed entirely during the expansion. Daily rituals and pujas will continue. However, the procedure for allowing devotees will be finalised soon,' said Srinivas, urging devotees not to fall for unverified rumours. Among the crowd was Raju Naik, a devotee from Warangal district, who visited the temple with his family. 'We decided to come now, fearing we might not get another chance once the renovation starts,' he said.

Aadi Srinivas to present evidence against Chennamaneni Ramesh to CID

Government Whip and Vemulawada MLA Aadi Srinivas will visit the Crime Investigation Department (CID) office in Hyderabad on Wednesday to present evidence relating to the fabricated documents Chennamaneni Ramaesh had used to falsely claim he was Indian citizen. Recently, Telangana High Court had imposed fine of ₹ 30 lakh on Chennamaneni Ramesh, who got elected four times as MLA from Vemulawada, ruling that he had fraudulently claimed Indian citizenship and contested the elections. The HC held that ₹ 25 lakh of the total fine amount should be paid to Adi Srinivas, who lost three times to Ramesh and secured second highest number of votes. Mr. Adi Srinivas had been claiming for past several years that Mr. Ramesh acquired German citizenship having lived there for long, but contested from Vemulawada Assembly constituency by falsely claiming he was Indian citizen. Following the HC verdict, Mr. Adi Srinivas who won as Vemulawada MLA in 2023 and became Congress Whip, already lodged a complaint with the State police chief to initiate criminal action against Mr. Ramesh as the latter played fraud and deceived everyone by falsely claiming himself as an Indian. Already, the CID had registered a criminal case and issued a First Information Report based on the MLA's complaint. The investigators invoked Sections 465, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 12 of Indian Passport Act 1967, Section 14 of The Foreigners Act 1946 and Section 17 of the Indian Citizenship Act 1955. Mr. Aadi Srinivas, in his complaint with the DGP, alleged that Mr. Ramesh had stayed only 96 days in India before obtaining the Indian citizenship. According to Mr. Srinivas, Chennamaneni Ramesh applied for a residential permit on March 26, 2008, stating his intention to establish a spinning mill in Vemulawada, and obtained the permit on March 29, 2008. However, Ramesh reportedly suppressed the fact that he hadn't resided in India for 12 months. Quoting the High Court judgment, Mr. Aadi Srinivas stated that Mr. Ramesh committed fraud against the Centre, State government, and the voters of Vemulawada constituency, making him liable for prosecution. 'The HC laid Ramesh bare over the fraud he played with our democratic system and election process. He needs to be prosecuted and hence I approached the police to initiate criminal action against him,' he said on Tuesday.

Shun referring Chennamaneni as former MLA, says Govt Whip

Hyderabad: Government Whip Aadi Srinivas urged that BRS leader Chennamaneni Ramesh should not be referred to as a former MLA, in wake of the High Court declaring him a German national. The Vemulawada MLA has decided to pursue the matter with the High Court towards ensuring that the salary and allowances Ramesh has received so far as MLA be recovered. The pink party faced a major setback on Monday after the High Court declared Ramesh as a German national. This judgment was delivered in response to a petition filed by Aadi Srinivas, challenging the citizenship status of Ramesh. 'This may be the first time in the world that a non-citizen has become an MLA. I have been saying that Ramesh has submitted false affidavits while traveling on a German passport. Had he not contested the elections, I would have become Vemulawada MLA a decade back. I have requested the police to take legal action against him. I hope that the CID will conduct a thorough investigation and file an FIR. The High Court should also annul his past decisions as MLA. I wish no injustice be done to anyone in this country,' said Aadi Srinivas, while speaking to media persons following the verdict at the High Court.
