Iran targets US military bases in Qatar; India issues advisory to citizens

Qatar intercepted the attack, reported no casualties, and condemned the strike as a breach of its sovereignty New Delhi A day after the United States carried out airstrikes on three of Iran's nuclear sites, Iran retaliated by launching multiple missiles at American military bases in Qatar. According to an Axios report citing an Israeli official, at least 10 missiles were fired towards Qatar and at least one towards Iraq. In a statement, the Iranian Armed Forces said: "Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with the sacred code or Aba Abdullah Al-Hussein (PBUH) has targeted the Al-Udeid base in Qatar with a devastating and powerful missile attack in Operation Besharat Fatah. This base is the headquarters of the Air Force and the largest strategic asset of the US terrorist army in the West Asian region." Media reports also said sirens were sounded at US bases in Saudi Arabia. Simultaneously, Qatar activated its air defence system. Indian embassy urges caution In light of the situation, the Indian Embassy in Qatar has advised Indian nationals to remain calm and stay indoors. "In view of the ongoing situation, Indian community in Qatar is urged to be cautious and remains indoors. Please remain calm and follow local news, instructions and guidance provides by Qatari authorities. The Embassy will also keep updating through our social media channels," it said in a post on X. IndiGo Airlines has issued a travel advisory, stating, "In view of the evolving situation in the Middle East, some of our flights may experience delays or diversions. These adjustments are being made to ensure operations remain within safe and compliant airspace. We recommend checking your flight status regularly. If your flight is impacted, alternate options can be easily explored through our website." It added, "We continue to monitor the situation closely in coordination with the relevant authorities. We appreciate your patience and understanding." Incident didn't result in any deaths: Qatar In a statement, Qatar's Ministry of Defence said: "The Ministry of Defence announced that Qatari air defenses successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting Al-Udeid Air Base. Thanks to God, the vigilance of the armed forces, and the precautionary measures taken, the incident did not result in any deaths or injuries." It added: "The Ministry reiterated that the airspace and territory of the State of Qatar are safe and that the Qatar Armed Forces are always ready to deal with any threat. The Ministry of Defence advises citizens and residents to seek guidance and the latest developments from official sources." Dr Majed Al Ansari, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also issued a statement: "The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. We consider this a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter. We affirm that Qatar reserves the right to respond directly in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this brazen aggression, in line with international law. We reassure that Qatar's air defenses successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles." Qatar condemns attack, asserts right to respond Qatar has condemned Iran's missile attack on the Al-Udeid base, stating that its air defences successfully intercepted the missiles and there were no casualties. It also asserted its right to respond to the aggression. Separately, Iran has also launched missile attacks on US forces stationed at Iraq's Ain al-Assad air base, according to Mehr News. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates has closed its airspace, as per Flightradar. Bahrain has issued siren alerts, urging residents to take shelter.

No Casualty In Iranian Strikes On US Bases, Reserve Right To Respond: Qatar
Qatar confirmed that no casualties have taken place in the Iranian attack on American military bases in the country. Doha said it reserves the right to respond to the Iranian aggression. The Qatari foreign ministry condemned the attack, which dragged it into a conflict which was primarily between Israel and Iran. The ministry in a statement said, "The Qatari Foreign Ministry condemns the attack as a clear breach of Qatar's sovereignty, airspace, and international law." Around 10 pm (IST), Iran launched missiles at the Al Udeid airbase of the United States in Doha. It's one of the two airbases the US has, which is located southwest of the capital. Explosions were heard across the capital, but no significant damage has been reported till now. Air raid sirens were also heard across Qatar. Iran, justifying the strikes in a statement, said, "Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with the sacred code or Aba Abdullah Al-Hussein (PBUH) has targeted the Al-Udeid base in Qatar with a devastating and powerful missile attack in Operation Besharat Fatah. This base is the headquarters of the Air Force and the largest strategic asset of the US terrorist army in the West Asian region," the Iranian Armed Forces said in a statement." Meanwhile, Qatar has called it flagrant violation of its sovereignty and airspace and said, "We express the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of the attack on Al Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and consider it a flagrant violation of the State of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law," foreign ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said in a statement. "We emphasize that the State of Qatar was among the first countries to warn against the consequences of Israeli escalation in the region*, calling for the priority of diplomatic solutions, and adhering to the principles of good neighborliness and non-escalation, affirming that dialogue is the only way to overcome current crises and preserve the security of the region and the peace of its peoples," the statement said. "The base had been evacuated earlier in accordance with approved security and precautionary measures, in light of the tensions currently prevailing in the region. All necessary measures were taken to ensure the safety of the base's personnel, including members of the Qatari Armed Forces, friendly forces, and others. He confirmed that no injuries or human losses occurred as a result of the attack," they added. The Iranian strikes now now pulled Qatar into the conflict, which began earlier this month when Israel carried out missile, drone strikes on Iran, followed by Tehran's response. The to-and-fro between the countries continued, and the US intervened yesterday after it struck three Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Esfahan and Natanz with GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs and Tomahawk missiles. After strikes on Qatar, four countries are involved in the conflict in the Middle East. A few hours before the Iranian strikes, Qatar had closed its airspace.
