Nebraska takes series over Maryland in first-ever sellout crowd at Bowlin Stadium
The Nebraska softball team (37-12, 16-5) and the Maryland Terrapins (18-30, 3-18) met for the second game in their conference series on Saturday afternoon. After the Terrapins struck first, No. 20 Nebraska scored nine unanswered to take the win and the series.
Maryland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, with the Huskers playing from behind until the fourth. Nebraska scored four runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Huskers added four more runs across the next two innings, putting the game away.
The Huskers won the series in front of its first-ever sellout crowd of 3,021 fans at Bowlin Stadium. This eclipsed Nebraska's previous best record of 2,699 fans, set earlier in the season against Indiana.
The Huskers' series win is their sixth conference series win of the year, and they ended the season undefeated in conference series wins.
Ava Kuszak led Nebraska in RBIs, earning two off her only hit of the game: a triple. Abbie Squier finished 2-for-2 at the plate, delivering a triple and a double for one RBI.
Samantha Bland, Olivia DiNardo and Hannah Camenzind all pitched in two hits in the win. Bland and DiNardo also drove in an RBI. Ava Bredwell and Bella Bacon also finished with one RBI each.
Jordyn Bahl notched an RBI double in the fifth inning, setting a new school record in extra-base hits on the season with 36.
Kylee Magee (7-4) grabbed the win in the circle, pitching the final 4.0 and shutting out the Terrapins. She threw three strikeouts and allowed two hits. H. Camenzind started the game and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing two runs.
The Huskers conclude the series with the Terrapins on Sunday morning. The first pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.
