Egypt condemns Israeli decision to halt all Gaza aid
Egypt has criticized Israel's decision to halt all aid deliveries into Gaza, as Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty said on Sunday that starvation should not be used as a weapon. "The deal includes a full flow of aid, and it cannot be allowed or accepted that aid is used as a weapon for collective punishment and starvation," he said. "This is considered as a blatant and clear violation of international humanitarian law," Abdel-Atty told a press conference. "If the first stage has ended, then we must now begin talks about the second phase," he said, adding that mediators will continue their intensive efforts to sustain the ceasefire. Egypt, Qatar and the United States have been acting as mediators between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Egypt's top diplomat rejects displacement, urges Gaza reconstruction
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty reiterated his country's "complete rejection" of the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza during his first meeting with his American counterpart, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in Washington. During the meeting, Abdel-Atty stressed the need for speeding up the reconstruction of Gaza - with the Palestinians who call the territory home living there, an Egyptian foreign ministry statement said. The meeting comes shortly after controversial remarks by US President Donald Trump, whose plan for the US to "take over Gaza" and resettle the residents would not give them the right to return to the territory. Trump has called for Egypt and Jordan to take in the Palestinians. "Egypt looks forward to coordinate with the US administration to work to achieve the desired just peace in the Middle East in a way that responds to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, most notably their right to establish their independent state on all their national soil," the statement read. Abdel-Atty also called for working towards a "political horizon that would end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict," in accordance with the two-state solution.
